I had the pleasure of having my two good friends come to visit me while I have been in Hawaii. They stayed with me and we also took a trip for the weekend to Kaua'i - one of the other islands of Hawai'i. We had booked a snorkeling boat ride that went around the Napali Coast side of the island. Unfortunately the water was not very good for snorkeling that day, too turbulent and cloudy, although we still tried! The best thing besides the scenery was a bunch of blue dolphins that went by the boat. They would occasionally jump and do flips and twists in the air, pretty cool. It was a pretty decent day for that - since Sunday ended up raining most of the time we tried to go to the beach. Though on Saturday, we did go to another beach called Poipu, and saw a Monk seal sleeping right off the beach! Apparently after they have been out at sea feeding for a while, they come to these beaches to sleep in the sand just above the surf. Although I had to return to work on Monday, it was nice to get out of the normal routine with good friends! One of the other beautiful places we drove to see was the Waimea Canyon - some people call it the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific." As I have never seen the Grand Canyon, I can't say which trumps the other. Though, Waimea Canyon had a great view. I was able to use the weekend to practice with my new (very nice) camera, which worked out great for all the gorgeous places we went to on the island. Although it's hard to get someone else to learn how to get the settings correct on it and take a decent picture of you. A fun factoid about Kaua'i is that they filmed the Jurassic Park movie here (as well as other movies), so Kristina and I had to listen to Adam hum the theme song more than a few times.
