Forget preludes about “written on the Hound” etc – this is from the Thunderbird Inn directly across the road from the Hound in Savannah. With the luxury of an extra night here which I decided this morning I have simply not really gone out all day but plotted in some detail the next few days as I only have 11 days more or less.

After a bit of an allnighter after too many beers/shooters with Brandon I fell asleep on and off in bed and did not get up until almost noon – to get some Krispy Kreme donuts from the Thunderbird office to go with my in-room brew coffee. Then planned on the Net my next 4 days up until Atlanta – hotel for 1 night in Charleston, Sth Carolina after going there early (leave 7am) on Saturday morning, then 2 nights and 2 musical events in Athens, Georgia – home of REM and a vibrant music scene. Unfortunately main venue burnt down 18 months ago but have bought tix to other events. Then to Atlanta – some ideas there but still to book. Then out after 6pm when it was already dark – had rung the Olde Pink

House re doing dinner there. This started as Habersham House of Mr Habersham in 1771 – an English merchant. Now supposedly one of the better restaurants in Savannah.

I ended up with a table right in front of the gas fire upstairs (it has got rather cold and windy so wool + jacket weather) – in what used to be one of the master bedrooms waiter told me. There are several rooms each with 3-5 tables in each. This proved a $100 meal due to my purchase of a half bottle of 2008 King Estate (Oregon) pinot noir for $23 – after I had already had a glass of Spanish albarino white with the sautéed scallops on wilted spinach. The main was a melt in mouth chunk of filet mignon with grilled asparagus and “twice baked” potato (skin stuffed with mash then baked again). The half bottle was maybe a little much but I finished it! And I even tried my luck with Key Lime pie (never eat outside Key West, let alone Florida is the usual rule). This was a pretty fine effort – a nice biscuit crust, but really a lime flavoured cheese cake.

So in the interests of bedtime and some sights tomorrow – I will simply add some pix, plate and serve!
