OK, we took over 170 pictures on the ride from Durango to Silverton and back. Instead of trying to select 3-5 for the previous blog, I opted to do a separate one of mostly pictures. Main street was paved but all side roads were dirt or packed gravel. This is the town hall with the mountains rising beyond.

What a great spot for a tipi!! But we didn't see any campers; perhaps they were off hiking.

Met a lovely young lady who had one day off from her consulting job and she decided to take the train ride. Great conversationalist and she shared some of her pictures with us.

It was amazing how close to the edge we got. (Scary is another good adjective.) At times we could only see air looking down.

Sure hope the pilings hold. We were told the week before a boulder rolled down and moved the track about 2 feet in one section. Everyone had an extra 3 hour stay in Silverton while crews rushed in to move the boulder and repair the track.

We are much lower here, and getting closer to Durango. It got warmer and by now, most of us were sore and tired from the bouncing, swaying, jiggling, and the cold.
