Perhaps this beautiful, but arid spot in southern California reminded the first Spanish explorers of home. They established a monastery here in the 1500's and it has become quite famous for the swallows, which nest here in the Spring. Anyone who loves historical places will enjoy a day spent strolling the grounds and buildings of the monastery. There's a lot to see!
