Although I had thought of buying the one day transport pass to economically take at least one regulation cable car ride did not even manage that. Confined to the room with the need to book myself into some hotels in Dallas. Due to the labrynthine hotel bookings available via various providers this is a bit of a jungle and you almost have to look at 3 or 4 providers. I have previously used Booking.com as you only give your card details as a deposit guarantee against no shows.
Anyway enuf frittering on details – this has gotta be seriously speeded up as it is now 31 Jan and I am in Fort Worth. I think now some Quick text and more pix – which some (ahem) might prefer.
Decided as I had the BART ticket, and no cash, would head over to ole Mission again (as stop is at 24th and Mission – and Garcon is at 22nd) to try my luck. Well at 8pm on a Friday – my bad – no room at the bar for Mr Mink. Went away for 15 or so mins – came back and the nice lady told me that the window

Japanese singer in the red dress had opened – then closed again. So I dined at a place called Spork – which was better than it sounded. An entrée of deep fried cauliflower and calamari with a quite nice lightly spicy sauce was quite nice. Cant even remember what I hd after that – so much time, so many meals! Then a dash to get the every 20mins BART to Civic centre and a walk up to the Great American Music Theatre (GAMT) in the Tenderloin.
The GAMT was fairly packed – it’s a great small narrow room with ornate patterned ceiling and great deep balcony all around. In talk later with someone he thought it was probably a ballroom – figures for non-dancers to keep an eye on what’s happening below. On stage Mousepad (by deduction from the bill) –a frenetic drum and keyboard/synth duo who were quite funky in a sorta wild electro way. Chatted to a guy who did not know who they were – he and his mate had come over from Oakland – mostly to see Fred Frith (guitarist) with sax player, who I missed as on first. It turned out that the guy he was with ws Fred Frith’s
Deerhoof
go at it a bit son! (kids, Mr Frith is English ? and was active first in the 70’s – was among first artists on Virgin records I think. Has also played with Richard Thompson – my hero etc. We had a pretty good chat about music. The main band was Deerhoof – a Bay area art rock band I spose who have just released their 11th album. The guy I was chatting too said lots of artists are now releasing only on vinyl – with dig. download as well. They had sold out of CD anyway as I would have bought it to go with the experience of seeing them. Fairly interesting as they have a Japanese female singer who also plays keys and guitar. Walked back to hotel and not assaulted or anything or even looked dodgy - nice!

Hi Mike, That sure was an interesting night. How about the son of Fred Frith! Japanese female singer? Wonder how that all got together there in San Fran? Love Huddo.
