Palm Springs
Our stay in Borrego Springs can to an end and it was time for Antony to return to Paris. We drove back to San Diego and spent the day in Balboa Park and its museums before sadly saying "au revoir" to our Third Musketeer at the airport.
From there we had a three-hour drive to Palm Springs and arrived just after dark. Eventually we found the Canyon Club, our B&B at 960 Palm Canyon Drive. Why do Americans have to have such long roads with
thousands of numbers? Very confusing. Anyway the B&B had a nice pool, comfy rooms and was situated on the resort's main street within walking distance of Downtown.
Palm Springs must once have been like Borrego Springs, a gritty little town in the desert. But now it is all boutiques and restaurants with carefully clipped palm trees, fountains, lawns and elaborate flowerbeds and an enormous statue of Marilyn Munroe in THAT pose. There is a VERY diverse cross-section of visitors. Suffice it to say we fitted in perfectly – loads of good-looking young librarians and executive assistants everywhere! We have spent a relaxing couple of days trolling up and down the shops and restaurants and unwinding after our exertions in the desert.
Well, you will be relieved to hear this is the last blog entry for this trip. Congratulations to all of you who have made it this far – sorry there's no prize!
