Well the time had come to leave "sin city" Vegas had been kind to us and we weren' t leaving out of pocket from the casino.
Sad to leave but a huge AIDS convention was in town and the room price were trebled for the next few days. Had planned to go down to San Diego but again prices were high and as we had already been there before, decided to try something new and head for the oasis in the desert - playground of the rich, Palm Springs California.
Another fairly unspectacular 4 hour drive apart from a few pretty mountain ranges, temperatures rising to over 100 degrees farenheit we eventually drove into town to find the biggest Biker Festival taking place over the weekend, downtown the roads were closed and many of the hotels were full. A quick stop at a really cool cafe complete with a cooling misting system over the patio, a refreshing virgin mojito, nibbles and use of their wifi, checked out the websites and found a couple of hotels with availability, a. a price, thank goodness for that win on the roulette! Decided on the Palm Mountain, Resort & Spa, perfectly located downtown
and absolutely surrounded by hundreds of the most beautiful Harley Davidsons and other spectacular motorbikes, all in prsitine, shiny condition, along with their owners, considerably less pristine and shiny, was more like a tattooists convention! We knew this wasn't going to be a quiet weekend and enhines would be revving late into the night.
Lovely room, last one available so no pool view but comfortable all the same. Dragged our ever increasing luggage up to the room, showered, changed and out to sample the delights of Friday evening in Palm Springs.
The place was absolutely buzzing, with the closed streets filled with stalls selling all manner of biking attire, the largest fast food items I've ever seen (and I've spent a lot of time in Texas!) alongside many other retail delights. All the cafes and bars provided a respite from the 100 degrees heat each with a misting system on the terrace, way too many restaurants to choose from, one I had seen online was Lulu's a super modern Californian bistro with neon lights and a great "misted" terrace. Completely over indulged, I chose what looked to be the smallest item as an appetizer also appeared healthy and
to add to my five a day, a creamy spinach dip with crispy pittas, it turned out to be enough for the majority of the restaurant to share with me! Alex had a more subtle bowl of onion soup. Entrees were -me a delicious curried chicken salad with grapes, raisins and shredded coconut on a bed of greens, Alex had a delicious home style meatloaf with spicy tomato sauce and mash! but that wasn't enough, oh no, Alex forced me to share the most delicious cake I have ever tasted, a rich "flourless" chocolate mousse cake, Alex decided if it was flourless, it must be healthy...yeah right... all washed down with lovely colourful cocktails, one pink Cosmo and. Blue, Vodka lemon drop....rolled ourselves back to the room vowing to be more health conscious tomorrow....it's no wonder those Harleys are big bikes....
I know I keep saying it but I think I have found my future home...
