After another great breakfast of free pancakes from our awesome hostel, we got back on the road for our second day of driving and headed towards Morro Bay. We had heard from some people at the hostel that Big Sur (which is apparently like a park right by the water with waterfalls etc) was a great place to stop at along the way, but somehow we must've driven straight past it because before we knew it we were in Morro Bay!
We were staying in a Travelodge for the night, which had a heated pool and was pretty nice. Morro Bay was a really cute, old fashioned beach town, and we went for a walk around the waterfront to the beach when we first arrived. Morro Rock is the main landmark in the bay, it is a really cool rock which sits right by the water. It was a really sunny day, but the wind was freezing by the water so we went back to the motel and lay by the pool for awhile instead.
We decided that we wanted a traditional Kiwi dinner of fish and chips on the beach, so we headed back down to the town in the
evening. The takeaway place was shut so we went next door to get them from the restaurant instead. We'd brought a can of coke with us to share with our dinner, but because we were in a restaurant we couldn't just put it on the table. It would have been pretty funny watching us trying to open and drink it under the table, and I think our waiter knew what we were doing but he was too nice to say anything! We split a meal of fish and chips, which we were glad about because it was massive! We had a pretty early night because we were both shattered after our drive, and we were planning on leaving early for Ventura the next morning
