Our NZ crib for 3 weeks
Without tax for 10 days Well stayed at the airport hotel in Auckland before our long flight to LA via Melbourne. So wake up in the night and what is Mike doing watching the snooker - I thought watching snooker was supposed to put you asleep, not keep you up. So I ask “why are you not asleep?” and what does he say “I cannot sleep as I am worried that I won’t wake up in time for the flight!”.
I am thinking why, as we have one alarm on also he booked a wake up call, what is going on here - but no talking to him when he gets in this mood. So the alarm goes off and also we get the wake up call, but did we need these NO as Mike was already up and showered and dressed. Think cat on a hot tin roof comes to mind!
So anyway whilst on the flight to Melbourne I had a giggling fit as Mike was trying to get his leg rest sorted - I remembered one flight we were on Mike again was having trouble getting the flatbed to work and all I could see was the
gentleman next to Mike whose chair kept turning into a flat bed (I am laughing whist writing this - people keep looking at me like I am mad, ha ha). I asked Mike what he was doing and he said he could not get the chair to work - to which I said maybe if you pressed your own controls instead of the gentleman who is sitting next to you it might work. The gentleman did not see the funny side of it but I ended up in the bathroom for most of the flight due to laughing so much. Anyway we could not get off the plane in Melbourne for about 1/2 hour due to tunder and lightening storms - isn't Australia supposed to be a hot country and it is now there summer - me don't think so.
I forgot to mention Mike, Mr Risk Averse had been driving around in a car that had not MOT (or NZ equivalent) for 10 days - not only that whilst driving the car to the rental company we heard a knocking and stopped the car only to find the headlight hanging out - lucky I was there as I just put it back in.
Well we eventually arrived in LA after waiting at border control and customs it felt like ages. We then decided that as we were tired we would get a shared taxi to where we are staying - not a good idea when you are tired and have to drop off around 10 other people at different places and you are the next from last.
However, we have arrived at our apartment and it is cool and stylish. The lady who owns it is a street artist and specialises in turning public places into spectacles. When you arrive there is a massive award winning sculpture in the front garden and loads of sculptures in the house - cool or what.
We picked a hire car up after having a few minutes back at the apartment and have been to Paul Getty’s museum for the afternoon - cultured or what. Driving or in my case being a passenger on the roads of LA is scary as they drive so fast and there are loads of cars on the road - a complete culture shock from driving in NZ where if you see more than 10 cars on the road you think it is busy.
We think we are going to Universal Studios tomorrow for a bit of fun time - but will decide in the morning.
