It was the time of year that everyone counts down the days to... Spring Break! And being that it was my fifth year of college - I knew it would be my last REAL chance at a true spring break before joining the "real world". Having never been further West than Alabama at this point, I knew exactly where I needed to go - California! I made arrangements to stay with a good friend of mine, Chris, and managed to line up part of the trip with some fellow friends from home to fly in together and spend the first day there all in a mini-reunion. We had a blast!
With only three hours of sleep, Myself, Hiral, Craig, Brad, and Theresa left for the Atlanta airport to catch our 9am flight. We arrived into Los Angeles around noon and all got to see Chris for the first time in nearly a year, and managed to dodge the rainshowers with the required lunch at In and Out Burger. (I don't see what the big deal about the place is personally, but hey.. it's a rite of passage, right?) From there, we all headed over to Hermosa Beach to catch a
glimpse of the ocean. It was way too cold and windy to lay out.. weather that was very unseasonal for March, but we made the best of it and goofed off there anyways. Craig even took video footage of all of us goofing off... I'm still waiting to get to see it! We all ended the night at a country style club just hanging out and enjoying the last night we all had there, because the next day, my four travel buddies were headed up to Yosemite and the three feet of snow.. lol!
The rest of the week was spend soaking in just the general feel of California. I was staying in Redondo Beach, and I absolutely loved the area! I went back to Hermosa Beach a few more times also. I didn't get to watch a sunset because the clouds did not want to cooperate with me - but in a fair tradeoff, we found a GREAT sushi place! (I'm still drooling over it!)
We got to visit the famous Venice Beach, and I loved the feel of it. Little shops and peddlers along the walk area gave it a very laid back feel. I also
took a ton of pictures of graffitti areas actually on the beach. I was also surprised to see an outdoor gym, and then even the area they filmed the basketball scene at from American History X. The architecture along the beach is very interesting too - then again, if you can afford the land there - why not go all out!
Venturing into Hollywood, I got to see the Walk of Fame and the Chinese Theatre. There were also costumed characters walking around, but I learned my lesson from when I was in Rome, and knew not to get my picture taken with them - they always have a price they make you aware of... AFTER the picture is taken. We found Chuck Norris's Star, Mike Myers, Paula Abdul, Big Bird, Hugh Hefner, John Travolta, and a ton of other stars on the walk.
My last night there, a Wednesday, one of Chris's friends got us VIP passes to see the Jimmy Kimmel show. That night it was Randy from American Idol, Janet Reno, and a mini concert from the band Hard-Fi. Was a fun little night, that's for sure!
I absolutely loved California, so much that
if a move like that across the country was reasonable.. you might be having to hold me back!
