Kate and Rob
You can tell we're gonna have fun! I got to Heathrow airport at 8am all packed and ready to go. Was tired and grumpy from lack of sleep but starting to get excited. I knew i had forgotten something, but i put it down to the feeling that everyone gets when they set out on a big trip. Of course i had everything! My rucksak was heaving, i had my wallet, passport, ticket, camera...........hold on...........wheres my camera? thats right boys and girls robert had forgotten his camera! I pulled everything out of my backpack in a desperate attempt to convince myself that it was there somewhere. It wasn't. I then tried to convince myself that it was packed away in my rucksak (which i had already checked in) and that when i arrived in San Diego I would happily find it. Who am i trying to kid? i knew it wasn't there! I cursed myself stupid for forgetting one of the most important things for a trip, but oh well, cant do anyting about it now.
So camera aside, I arrived in San Diego feeling very excited. I met Kate at the airport and barely recognised her, i just sort of bumped into her - literally. So
SD Zoo
Outside the San Diego Zoo, our first touristy outing. we got to the hostel and then went out for pizza and beer (how american) and caught up on the goss. San Diego is a nice enough town, the weather is great (which means i am starting to get a little bit of a tan - woo hoo!), but the people are very weird (no offence Virginnia, im sure you're from a nicer part of San Diego!). Theres just a lot of hobos, and really weird people around the city. Theres a lot of homeless people which is sad, and theres loads of people just walking aroudn talking (or yelling!) to themselves. Having said that though, i never felt in danger or anything, the weirdos usually keep to themselves so its okay. We went to the San Diego Zoo for a day which was really cool, they had loads of different animals including kangaroos and koalas! But the best were the polar bears, gorillas and pandas, just so beautiful i wanted to cuddle them! We sat there watching the gorillas for about half an hour, its just so interesting the way they interact with each other, so much like humans its scary some times!
Apart from the zoo we
Polar Bear
There was this amazing exhibit at the Zoo, the ploar bears were so beautiful! spent most of our time in San Diego busy trying to organise things for our road trip. A phone, car insurance and most importantly, a car. After scouring the classifieds for two days and phoning countless sellers we finally found our beast of a car that we have named "The Hoff". Its a 1992 Oldsmobile Achieva, dont ask me what that means exactly, i know nothing about cars, but it runs, its in good condition, and has a really good stereo! We were actually quite lucky to find such a good car. the first car we looked at was being sold by a guy called Tommy, who was your typical bling homie gangsta! gold chains draped around his neck, big chunky rings on every finger and to finish off the look, a mean looking baseball cap - we knew we were in America! I tried to act all manly and ask butch questions about the car like "how many miles has it done?" and "is it a 4 or 6 cyclinder" while Kate just rolled her eyes from underneath her hat. I think the funiest moment came when i ask gangsta tommy if he could pop the hood coz i
Western Tit
A rare creature found in Europe and Asia Minor. Watch out, it bites! wanted to see how much room was in the boot. Instead he popped the bonnet and started telling me things about the engine. I just acted cool and pretended to know what he was talking about. Although the only thing i could think of asking was "is the battery new?" lol!
But we put that all behind us and went to meet Deano who sold us the Hoff. After we bought it, we cleaned it up and then pimped our ride by sticking pictures and stuff all over the car. So the Hoff was ready to go. The night before we left I started chatting to these guys who were staying in the same hostel and they needed a ride to LA, so being the kind spirited guy i am i offered them a ride. Why not!? Its all in the spirit of a road trip.
So Andrew and Sam joined our little party and we headed off on interstate number 5 up to LA. We took the scenic route along the coast and for all those OC fans out there, we went through Newport Beach! For the whole trip I had the theme song from the OC
Elephant Man
Anyone up for a game of Zoo? Just call me Dumbo! running in my head "Californiaaaaaaa, Californiaaaaaa, here we come......!" So we got to Santa Monica yesterday (which is just west of LA by the beach) and have been just chilling out here for a while. We dropped Sam off in Venice Beach and Andrew has been hanging out with us. We met up with Kate's friend Tana who lives in Venice and she has kindly offered us a couch to sleep on for a few days, so we're really happy about that - anything to save money!
Today we're going to head into Hollywood to see the sights, and then in a couple of days go out to Las Vegas. Dont worry mum, i wont be gambling my money away - although all it takes is one big win and i could come back a millionaire. After that we'll be back in LA for a day or two and then head up to San Fransisco. I'm not looking forward to heading up north coz i know it'll start getting colder and colder and i cant really handle that.
Well thats all folks, hope you enjoyed and keep the comments coming!
