Texas Eagle
Image used from Google Images. It is getting to be time to hit the road again, this time Jennifer and I are on our way to Texas to visit her brother and do some snooping around in Dallas-Ft. Worth Texas. As was the case with the previous train trip we will be riding on Amtrak. However, we are not going to be going to on the Coast Starlight on this journey. We will be taking a more southern route this time as we are heading to Texas. I have included the maps on this blog as well as a picture of the map. Another difference this time is that instead of Jennifer and I sharing one compartment we are going to be taking two compartments of the roomette style. We did this for two reasons: 1. It allows us a little bit more space and 2. Jennifer and I are both slightly claustrophobic, and the upper bed on an Amtrak train that is double decker (AKA Superliner) is like a coffin. Booking our train this way will also allow us to be able to see out both sides of the train and have a clear view of the scenery.

Texas Eagle Route
Image retrieved from Google Images Angeles Union Passenger Terminal on Wednesday, July 5th at 2200 Pacific Time and if all goes according to plan, we will be arriving in Fort Worth, Texas at 1358 on Friday, July 7th. The Texas Eagle which is train 22 has been coming into Fort Worth about a half hour late for the last two months tends to do fairly well as far as On Time Performance.
I say if all goes according to plan because as we learned last year when we went to Portland, the train tends to follow its own set of rules and schedule. I think that this is one of the unique things about the train, you can start out on a journey stressed and worried about where you are going and how late are you going to be. By the time you reach your first stop that won't be a problem anymore as you relax to the swaying of the rails.
The Equipment:
Obviously, I will have my handy dandy iPhone 6S Plus for taking photographs and videos of things along the way. I will not be taking my work phone for any reason this time as I would
be to tempted to check it and check in on the folks at home.
I will be blogging from my whipped MacBook Pro as I have not yet spent the money on a replacement tablet as of this time although they are cheap in the Amazon world.
I will have my handy dandy Uniden Bearcat 396xt Scanner that I have owned for well over 15 years at this point. When I travel with this scanner, I tend to take out everything except for the frequencies that I need to be able to monitor whatever train I am on at the moment. Sometimes I will include the frequencies for where I am going but very rarely as I can listen to that sort of thing through an app on my phone.
Other than the items listed above it will be the luggage that has served me almost continuously since I traveled with Up with People in 2008.
We have rented a very cute AirBnB for this adventure and our five days in Dallas. This does include a pool, and unlike our rental in Vancouver, it is a small little house on a quiet block of Dallas. We
have also rented an SUV for spinning around town for whatever we want to do. We don't have super solid plans other than going to a melodrama one night and her Dad coming into town for a visit.
The return:
We will also be returning via Amtrak on the Texas Eagle. We will be departing Fortworth at 1410 CDT on Wednesday the 12th of July and get back to Los Angeles about 0530 on Friday the 14th of July. We will then be going back to work on Monday the 17th after some time cleaning and putting things away.
Stay tuned for more details on the train and to follow our glorious adventures and don't forget the food...one always must include pictures of the food and the sights as we take these trips.
