Decided we needed a little R&R...

We spent the day at the beach, watching surfers, poking around the tide pools, gawking at the elephant seals, and shopping in the quaint little town of Cambria.

January-May there are usually thousands of Elephant Seals at Piedras Blancas. Birthing is over and the females have left. July-August the sub-adult males (just reaching puberty) arrive.

Looks like the Heidelberg Project of the west coast! This home, built from local scrap, took 51 years to build. The building is a time capsule of earlier decades. Both Hearst Castle and Nitt Witt Ridge are state historical landmarks.
