My Dear Kelly
Just a few short days before she passed but still loving her Frizbee! Yep we are traveling again. After over a year we headed out on May 18th! As you know, we love to travel and in March of 2018 we took our first bucket-list trip to Tanzania, our first trip abroad. We left our traveling companions home and for 22 days had an amazing time.
Coming home we found that our little Boston Terrier had been sick with blood clots to her lungs. Kelly, the Boston, was found to have a fatal cancer of her kidney, Hemangioma Sarcoma. We had the kidney removed, but after two chemo treatments her heart, and remaining kidney failed and she passed on June 13th. My little soulmate left us all with a hole in our hearts.
Shortly before Kelly’s passing, I was diagnosed with early stage breast cancer, so lots of doctors appointments filled my summer and so travel was put off. I had my surgery and radiation in the fall of 2018 and was finally free of doctors again this spring.
Unfortunately, our other traveling companion Budd, a 120 lb Doberman, passed away suddenly from heart failure in August of 2018, just 5 days before my surgery. Once again we had a loss
that tore out a chunk of our hearts! We were happy that Budd had lived three weeks past his 12th birthday and for that we are grateful as he had a long wonderful life! Budd traveled with us everywhere and if you’d open a car or truck door he was always ready to get in. This is our first trip without Budd and Kelly.
In late October 2018, we gained a new traveling companion, Dottie, a Boston Terrier, who weighed just 2 lbs. She is 9 months old now and we will see how she likes traveling. Then in early November we added a second companion, Red, a red and rust Doberman, he is just 9 months now too. So this is just a long winded way of explaining why we have had over a year long break from traveling. Whew!! Makes me tired and sad just thinking about it!
When it became time came to start thinking about traveling again, we had 4 feet of snow falling in Arizona. It seemed like the perfect time to start planning our trip. This trip we will be gone all summer and we just can’t wait to get on the
Ramona, Dottie and Red!
This was quite awhile ago as Red can’t begin to fit on my lap anymore! road. We will be visiting Utah, Colorado minimally, Wyoming, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, South Dakota, Montana, Idaho, Washington, and Oregon. We will be visiting friends and lots of family but mostly enjoying traveling and teaching our new best buddies what camping and traveling is all about!
As I said, we left home on May 18th it was a hectic time getting going. David said he was more tired this time and he seemed to be under more pressure than before. I’m guessing that we are out of practice but I must admit I felt the same way. It could be that, as usual, I packed way to much into those final days, you know, oh I should just do this, or that before we go! Well this time we had a 16kw solar system installed and finished just the day before! Crazy but we were hoping to capitalize on our being gone and selling solar to our power company the whole time!!
