Koi fish in the atrium pools
Can you spot Mike and Lisa photo bombing in the background ! First signs of a challenge for us adjusting to different time zone with both of us waking up at 3.30am but managed to get back to sleep eventually. Later had breakfast in the amazing atrium which was included in our rates. I had a freshly made to order omelette (yummy).
Today is Saturday and we decided to take the short drive to Old Town Scottsdale and it was really hot. We managed to park the Lexus undercover in a free parking garage near 5th Avenue and went for a walk. Surprisingly the visitors centre is closed on weekends !
The first shop we went to I found a cool coffee mug which was only $9.99 plus taxes and we definitely want to buy a few more on this trip as mementos. Kerry found a nice piece of jewellery made by the native Navajo people that was a pendant shaped as a cactus with three or four different coloured stones included but at $79- she thought best to look around to see it it was cheaper elsewhere.
We eventually walked to the Scottsdale Fashion Square mall as it was air conditioned
inside and whilst it was a sunny day it was now close to 40 degrees. Our first shop was Nordstrom which seems a bit like David Jones store back home. Kerry found a couple of nice things but once we saw the price tags we decided to explore other shops and the next shop was straight outside selling Native American Indian gifts and they had a big sale on (minimum 50% off ticketed prices) and I got a classic T-Shirt which says “on a dark desert highway cool wind in my hair - Arizona”. One of my favourite all time classic songs and only cost me $10-.
We wandered around for a few hours and must have seen every designer shop you can imagine here and at least 3 electric car dealerships as well in a shopping mall ! There were so many shops here (well over 200) and I got some cheap socks from the massive Dicks Sporting Goods shop (6 pairs of golf socks for $13-). Their golfing department on its own was almost as big as the whole Rebel store back home.
We decided to grab some lunch in the food
court which had nearly all junk food shops but found a Chicken Masala dish with brown rice to share between us. Popped into our favourite Macy’s store but we were all shopped out and could not find the patience to buy anything.
Went to a coffee shop on the walk back to the car and had a Latte which is close as you can get to our version of Cappuccino and was pretty good.
It was still hot and I had been trying to get the Sat Nav on the car to work from my phone but it seems the car is not compatible with Apple CarPlay so we went back to the AT & T store and they managed to get the Bluetooth working so at least we can play Spotify and have Google Map instructions working from the phone.
Once back at Embassy Suites we used the final drink vouchers to get a couple of Bud Lites and Margaritas as pre dinner drinks in our room and had a nice meal at a restaurant across the road having a Mexican shared dish.
It’s been a nice
stay at this Hotel the only problem being a couple of elevators not working. Tomorrow we start the road trip heading north where our next stop will be Sedona for a 3 night stay.
