This thing is amazing - it's about 3 vertical miles below McKinley and catches all the snow that falls on the SE side of the mountain. That snow and ice is squeezed through a one mile wide bottleneck of the Great Gorge, which drops nearly 2000ft over 10 miles. The granite cliffs on either side are about 5000ft high and the glacier's ice is about 3800ft deep. The gorge itself is deeper than the Grand Canyon, the glacier moves 3.3 ft a day and up to 4 million pounds of ice can flow into and out of the gorge daily. Crazy.
