Aunt Suzie and me

Isn't she beautiful
Friday morning we left Suwannee River State Park and travelled west to Tallahassee to see my Aunt Suzie, who is not really my aunt, but has been friends with my mother since they were in second grade. She’s always been Aunt Suzie to me. We got to her street and discovered the street was closed, so we drove around the block to see if we could get through to her house. The city was digging a big hole in the street to get to the sewer, but allowed us to get past. It was so good to visit with Aunt Sue, after not seeing her in 40 years or more. We visit some on Facebook and have talked on the phone a time or two, but a good face to face chat was wonderful. We didn’t get to stay long as we still had a pretty good drive down to St. Joseph Peninsula SP, where my cousins, Gena and Bob were waiting.

The traffic leaving Tallahassee was a bit aggravating, but didn’t last long, and once we got to the park, we found that Gena and Bob had only beat us there by about half an hour. The wind was

blowing and it was pretty cold, so we skipped the beach for that night and enjoyed sitting in their warm trailer, eating their warm food.

Saturday morning was still windy and cold, but the four of us drove around the park looking for somewhere to surf fish. The gulf side was too windy, with the wind blowing off the water. The bay side was not as windy, but the water was too shallow. The boat ramp was windy, but deep, but no fish. Oh well. We still had some pretty sights to see in the park and a beautiful sunset over the Gulf of Mexico.

Sunday morning the wind had died down a lot, but the waves were still crashing in and the water was pretty stirred up. Bob and Gena had better luck casting their lines into the Gulf of Mexico, but no fish. They had to go home Sunday afternoon, so we regretfully said goodbye. Sunday night Kerry heard something outside in the brush. It was an armadillo, but by the time I got outside with my camera, it was gone.

Monday was calmer and we went down to the beach. Kerry walked way down

the beach and I sat and watched the waves. We drove into Cape San Blas for rental brochures for Michael and Crystal. Mostly we relaxed and enjoyed our last day at St. Joseph Peninsula.

This morning we packed up and headed north through Marianna, FL, Dothan, Montgomery, and Birmingham, AL, to Cullman, AL. Here we are stopped for the night at a nice little campground. We went to Cracker Barrel for our Valentine’s Day Dinner. Tomorrow we’ll be home. It will be nice to sleep in our bed and wash all those dirty clothes we’re bringing home. Can’t wait to hug and kiss our children and grandchildren. It has been a fun trip. Thanks for going with us.
