Today we were supose to go to Cuzama to see 3 Cenotes but poor Chelsea is quite sick with Montezumas Revenge so I'm taking this oppertunity to write a blog and holding my breath that I don't get sick too.
Yesterday we took a bus to Labna, Xlapak, Sayil, Kabah and then on to Uxmal. Although we were rushed for time; it was amazing! Labna and Xlapak are small and look's like they may have functioned as food storage locations during the high of Uxmallian rule. At Labna we followed the sacbe (ancent Mayan road) to the Arch of Labna. The arch is the most intercately decorated arch to be discovered and is the enterance to the city of Labna. ) At Xlapak we got to see an archaolgical site in the process of being discovered and restored. Most people check out the Palace at this site and then leave but Chelsea dragged us down a path which lead to an area still being excivated. Here there were many stones laying on the ground and two buildings. One building was a pile rubble and had trees growing on it. (insert rock on ground)
Next we went to Sayil and
Kabah. These were much grander then Labna and Xlapak. Sayil is Maya for the Place of the Ants. Everywhere we went there was ant holes. Some of them were as cool as the ruins. I took one picture were it looked like a bed of mud flowers but sadly it was too blurry to keep. Sayil is a three story structure so we finally got to do a little climbing, which also ment we got to get a better look at some of the stone work. The intricate work on these building was to much and I felt like we didn't have anough time to really take it all in as we only had 30 minutes before we had to get on the bus. In hind sight, the feeling of being overwhelmed at Sayil was nothing compaired to Kabah. Kabah was such a big site and we only had 30 minutes before our bus left that I just snapped a bunch of pictures and had to go to the internet today to find out what the pictures were. Here are some pictures of the Palace of the Maskes. The building has 250 maskes of the big nosed rain god Chac.
If you look closely you can see brightly coloured birds on the rope off enterance. I can't remember what Chelsea said they were. Maybe she can add a comment later and let us know.
At Uxmal we got 2 hours to explore (yay!) but they were not allowing visitors to climb the main pyramid (boo). That's OK though because we were feeling pretty tired by then anyways and there still Coba to climb. Uxmal was HUGH! and by far the most well presurved. We could have easally spent the whole day just at Uxmal but I'm glad we did the bus tour instead. My favorit picture is of Chelsea and me with the Great Pyramid in the background. That picture also gives a bit of an idea how big the site is too.
The one thing that all of the Puuc sites have in common is the Eguonas. Of course, Chelsea being the true reptile lover she is, she had to make friends and photograph them. I have to admit it was pretty cool to see them in the wild. We have pictures of every size from little ones to big ones with full beards.

Hey its like 1:30 here and im ust feelining well enough to move, bt that doesn't mean Im better. So this sucks. But mom forgot to mention the jewled beetles we found in Uxmal. This jewerl store was selling them and appparently they are from a love legend and to give one to your love is a romantic gift. If someone gave me a beetle covered in fake jewels Imight have flipped out. But anyway they were cool to look at.
Also to day is the last day that we have th lab top so our updates will be slower then they have been and mabye not that long depending oh whats going on with the hostal that we are at. Tomarrows we leave for Tulum I do Beive. ANyways, laters.
A sick as a dog Chelsea.
