We left Oaxaca to catch the bus down to a little village on the coast called Mazunte.

After an interesting 6 hour bus journey up and down a mountain range with bald tyres and a driver who seemed to think that braking was an insult to his machismo despite the torrential rain (with our bags strapped on the roof!) we finally arrived at the beach.

There were just a few places to stay, mainly hammocks or rooms with one double bed, and so we took the first place that we could find with two beds...despite the fact that it looked like a prison cell and was so hot that any movement meant that you were dripping in sweat. Nice.

We wandered around for a bit and found a much better place overlooking the beach that was only $3 more per night, but we still had to stay in our cell for one night. Schoolboy error.

We´ve spent the past couple of days not doing much other than getting pounded by the big waves and the big sun, watching the football in a little thatched hut on the beach and eating lots of seafood.

The main activity here is to take a boat trip out to see the dolphins and the turtles. We went out and saw a pod of about 20 wild dolphins which was amazing - jumping all around the boat, the other main attraction was the wreckage of a Colombian drug smuggler´s plane washed up on a deserted beach.

Then we saw two turtles having sex as it´s the mating season...quite funny as they have sex for 14 days straight and they lie on each other on the surface slapping each other with their paddles...

However the rest of the trip was pretty horrific. When we found one swimming on its own the guide dived in and grabbed it by the shell, in order that the rest of the boat could swim with it and get their photos taken with it as they molested the terrified turtle. Despite the fact that the whole village is supposedly an eco-reserve the locals seemed completely unfazed by the fact that the turtle was flapping wildly and traumatically gulping for air...which everyone else seemed to find unbelievably amusing for some reason...

Not much else to report other than Henry A's attempts to keep up with the locals in the amount of chilli sauce he can consume - the result being a severe loss of bowel control!!!

We're off to San Christobal de las Casas tonight on the bus which will hopefully be a bit cooler...The typical Brits sitting in the shade need their relief!!

Hope all is well with everyone at home...

Love,

The Henry's

Just Jealous...
Loved the photos, and keep on thinking about that view from your room - cool or what! Can't think what has dragged you away but I gather their are waterfalls in the next place, so perhaps that it is the attraction. Tempted to come and join you - we can do France another year - but I don't suppose you would thank us! Keep up the reports (please!) Love from us all xxx
