Supposedly Templo Mayor was built on the location that the wondering Aztecs finally saw the eagle on a cactus eating a snake, a symbol which now adorns the flag of Mexico.

Much of what can be seen of Templo Mayor was once under beautiful colonial buildings as can be seen by the utilities that remain, which cut right through the ancient structures.

Some more of the well preserved ruins of Templo Mayor. This portion is actually a nearly complete pyramid that has sunk so much that the base still can't be reached.
