First of all apologies for delay in posting blog and photo's for the last few days as I have had trouble with Internet acces on the Ship. Photo's are now available for all days.
When we awoke today we were already anchored at our final port of Cabo San Lucas and got a glimpse of the rocky area and the town in the distance as we had to get tender boats to this port.
We had a quick breakfast and we headed down to the Princess Theatre to await our call. Today we were going on a Zodiac boat which is an inflatable dinghy to do some whale watching. Another fine and sunny day with temps around 27 degrees although it was a bit cool in the morning.
We were supposed to be at sea for 2.5 hours, and it was not long before we spotted our first pair of humpbacks. We then saw some grey whales which are less common. The seas were a bit choppy and every time the driver spotted a spout we would race over to that area and wait for the whales to surface.
It got a bit quiet after a while
so he decided to head about 5 miles out to sea where he was told a pod of humpbacks had been playing. It took about 15 minutes to get there and it was really bumpy as we were all sitting on the side of the dinghy bouncing on the choppy waves.
When we got there we saw about 5 humpbacks and they were real close to us. I had a lot of trouble getting any decent photo’s as you had to be real quick and I was trying too hard to zoom in close. As it turned out both Elise and Luke managed to get better photo’s than me.
We stayed near the group of humpbacks for about 10 minutes and it was excellent seeing these huge animals. They kept coming up and seeing their tails going down was a real treat. No breaching but I suspect you need to be real lucky to see that happening. There was one whale that surfaced right alongside another dinghy and they were shocked at how close it actually came.
I could see our driver getting agitated as we were supposed to be back by 1PM, and it was already
1.10PM when he decided to head back. We did not get back until 1.30PM so we had 3 hours of fun although next time we agreed we’d rather be on the bigger catamarans than the Zodiac.
Once we got back to Cabo San Lucas we did not have any time to spare as the Ship was leaving at 2PM. It was a shame as the port was really nice, more modern than the other ones and more commercialised but hundred of yachts in the harbor and somewhere that looked like worthy of coming back to see. We saw a sign saying you do Parasailing for only $25- which is a bargain.
Anyway back on to the tender boat and it was a bit scary trying to get off the tender boat as it kept smacking the side of the Ship as people were trying to climb off. We then had lunch which meant I missed Round 3 of Ryder Cup golf challenge.
Read a bit more of my book in the afternoon, and we had formal night again at Savoy. No photo’s taken this time, and then Kerry & I went and saw the Steve Moris show.
This guy was in Beach Boys for a while and did some songs combined with a bit of comedy which was OK.
