Our second port of call in Greenland was Qaqortoq. It is a town of about 3,000 on the Julianehåbsfjord (Juliana Fijord). Formerly known as Julianehåb, it was founded by the Danes in 1774 as an outpost for the sealskin trade and is now the fifth largest town in Greenland. Royal Arctic Line warehouse in Qaqortoq. Royal Arctic Line, founded in 1993 by the government of Greenland, is a successor to the Royal Greenland Trading Department. Its ships bring food and consumer goods to Greenland from Denmark. DSC_0753

M/V Aviaq Ittuk at Qaqortoq, Greenland. Launched in 1983, 87.6 gt. Capacity of 36 passengers. Operated by Diskoline. Diskoline provides ferry services in North and South Greenland on contract with the Government of Greenland, along with tourist travel services. DSC_0754

M/S Sarfaq Ittuk. West Greenland coastal ferry operated by Arctic Umiaq Line, a subsidiary of Royal Arctic Line. Launched in 1992, refit in 2000, 2,118 gt. IMO: 8913899. Arctic Umiaq Line operates passenger service between Ilulissat and Qaqartoq similar to the Norwegian Coastal Express (Hurtigruten). IMG_0534
