We returned to the airport and called for our rental car. The transaction was smooth and after hooking up the GPS we were on our way out of Montreal via a tunnel which goes under the St. Lawrence. Our route took us around Quebec City to our destination which is a B & B on Île D'Orléans.

In 1535 Jacques Cartier called it the Isle of Bacchus because he saw many vines. Natives however called it Minigo which means "bewitched island". The island is considered to be one of the oldest populated areas of the Nouvelle France with more than 300 ancestral families having lived there. Such families now have descendants all over Quebec, Ontario, the Eastern provinces and even the north part of the United States. The island also honours its past by having many craftsmen, painters, sculptors, blacksmiths and cabinetmakers working in accordance with ancestral practices.

The church parish dates back to 1679.
