Vieux-Quebec ("Old Town") is a U.N.E.S.CO. world heritage site. Quebec City is the only North American fortified city north of Mexico whose walls still exist. "Kebec" is the Algonquin (aboriginal NE Canadians) word for "where the river narrows". French explorer Jacques Cartier built a fort here in 1535, and then returned to France. Quebec was founded by Samuel de Champlain in 1608

It is held for 2 weeks in February. We were in Q.C. December so we missed the carnival but it was beautifully lit up for the holidays.
