Our Home
Our home before the midway was up It's been 3 weeks since we moved out of our home, packed everything in our 30 foot trailer and moved our entire existence to the CNE fairgrounds. I think it is fair to say that a lot has happened during that time.
After a wonderful week in Calgary, we arrived home late in the evening to an alarm going off in our trailer. Nothing seemed awry, but we decided to approach cautiously... I have no idea about trailers and the noises they make, so I thought it was just simply better to follow Sean's lead. Turns out that nothing was really wrong except that the giant electrical box that we broke into to get our power had a lot more people plugged into it now and someone had accidentally knocked our connection loose. So the noise meant that our little trailer was running out of juice...no problem, Sean quickly rigged it up again so we were back in biz.
However, upon entering the trailer we were catching wafts of something really raunchy....upon opening the fridge and the freezer, we quickly realized that all of our meat products had been cooking themselves for the last couple of days. We spent
a couple of hours scooping out exploded bits of meat, bleaching and being sick outside...not the best welcome home, but we did manage to get everything cleaned up.
Needless to say, between the excitement of cleaning up rotting meat and the smell, we didn't sleep our first night back at home.
That morning after an evening of no sleep, we went about tracking down our super important Chinese visa documents which needed to be rerouted several times. After tracking them down and submitting all of the required paperwork to the Chinese consulate, we were granted our Chinese residence permit visas a few days later. This will allow us to work at Guangzhou University of Foreign Studies for the next year. I am looking forward to going back to China, but I even more excited to introduce it to Sean. It's hard to believe that we fly out in 2 weeks!
I finally sold Sunny Rae---my beautiful yellow Fiat 500. I am going to miss her, but I do not think she would last long on the roads in Asia (I would crash her for sure!) So she, like everything else that would ultimately bind us here, had to go.
I bookmarked this last weekend with actually attending a wedding and a funeral (my first(s) ever) . Friday was the celebration of my cousin Angela and Luke's union. Monday we buried my great grandmother Starka, who lived a beautiful and long life.
Setup for the CNE is finished and now the seemingly empty grounds have transformed to a full party area where there is fun to be had at every corner and crevice. I have worked my first 5 days as a carnie at the over/under gambling game and have quite enjoyed myself. There is an honesty to this type of business that I did not feel in my last corporate job....I will touch more on this in one of my later posts....
Sean has been super busy. He hasn't worked less than a sixteen hour day since we got back from Calgary. So, it's been wild, but everything is falling into place. Only a couple more weeks and we are leaving on a jet plane!
