Hello Everyone,
This is my first Blog entry and the beginning of my around the world experience. I am not leaving for my trip till Sept. 2011, so everything is still in the beginning phase.
I booked my around the world ticket 2 weeks ago and now i am in the process of preparing. I know the rough outline of where i am headed and my main goals.
The main purpose of this Blog is for my friends and family to be kept up to date and in touch. Truthfully i have never done one of these before so it's all a new process to me...no judging allowed 😊.
As my friends and family you guys know how spontaneous and wild i can be. To some of you i am that crazy nurse who cannot stop travelling 😊. Now for those who don't completely know me then i will tell you this trip has been a long time coming. As many of you know i travel a lot, but when i travel it's not normally for more than a few months. I have already had the great experiences of previously travelling through Europe, Africa, Asia and lots of North America.
Before i get into the nitty gritty of my trip i should probably say a little about myself. I am a 24 year old soon to be 25(quarter century club yay) who has grown up just outside of Toronto, Canada. I am a Registered Nurse and right now Work at a great Hospital in Toronto in their Medical Surgical Intensive Care Unit. I am proud of being a critical care RN and feel that the last 3 years i have worked in the ICU have made me a better person. Working as a RN has given me an amazing appreciation and perspective on Life.
So now onto the trip!
This trip consists of 10 countries in 152 days, minimal 12 flights (completely around the world) and only three countries of which English is the spoken language.
I do have the honour of travelling to countries i have been to before, three of the countries i am travelling to i have recently explored. These are England, Tanzania and Thailand. Very excited to go back and explore some more.
The Itinerary consists of:
Toronto-England
England-Tanzania
Tanzania-India
India-Nepal
Nepal-Thailand
Thailand-Laos
Laos-Vietnam
Vietnam-Cambodia
Cambodia-Thailand
Thailand-Australia
Australia-New Zealand
New Zealand-HOME
For all of my nursing/health care friends out there don't you worry, i have full MEDICAL insurance that covers climbing to high altitudes, scuba diving and everything in-between.
Some of the amazing highlights of my trip i have determined to date are: Kite surfing and Scuba diving in Zanzibar, seeing the Taj Mahal in India, climbing just past the Everest Base camp (5500m ASL) in Nepal, full moon party in Thailand (a must 😊), Scuba diving in southern Thailand, exploring Ayers rock, sailing, learning to surf and diving the great barrier reef in Australia. Those are just a few of the many awesome experiences i plan on having.
Now so no one gets confused as to why i am heading to Tanzania and my highlight's do not include; safari, climbing Kilimanjaro and seeing the tribes it is because i just came back from Tanzania in Oct. I have already had the amazing honour and experience of doing those things, all of which were great. Completely fell in love with Tanzania while i was down there to work in a Labour and delivery hospital, so I have to go back 😊.
So i think that’s the end of my first Blog, i am very excited and cannot wait to share my adventure with all of you.
Don't wanna be sappy but here are a few of my favourite quotes for travelling.
“Adventure is a path. Real adventure – self-determined, self-motivated, often risky – forces you to have firsthand encounters with the world. The world the way it is, not the way you imagine it. Your body will collide with the earth and you will bear witness. In this way you will be compelled to grapple with the limitless kindness and bottomless cruelty of humankind – and perhaps realize that you yourself are capable of both. This will change you. Nothing will ever again be black-and-white.” – Mark Jenkins
"Life is not measured by
the number of breaths we take,
but by the moments
that take our breath away."
