Ottawa, Canada

Ottawa, CanadaI have finally arrived in Canada this morning. I am in Ottawa, the capitol city of Canada. The flight from Washington, D.C. was only one hour and thirty minutes, but we left for the airport in D.C. at 5:00 AM. Let's just say, I was not completely aware of where I was until I was about to land in Ottawa. It's interesting to note that all of the anouncements on the plane, as well as all of the signs are in both French and English, Canada's two official languages. This city is beautiful, and much of it reminds me of Europe. The city is in the province of Ontario, and during the winter has the longest ice skating rink in the world.
After arriving to our hotel, we went on a guided walk of the city, where we learned about the history of the city, government, and architecture. We then went to a dinner party at the home of the director of Fulbright Canada. The evening was very nice, and there were representatives from the Department of Foreign Affairs Canada, Fulbright Canada, and an Ottawa school district. Tomorrow is Canada Day, so stay tuned for news on the celebrations that take place during this National Canadian holiday.
