A small, yet fitting, 1980’s musical reference to begin our final Ontario blog. Well, the last of Ontario time was spent running around getting everything we needed before crossing the pond and saying some goodbyes to family and friends, including a fun night with my brother, sister-in-law, niece and nephew. This meant we had to be well organized as we knew we would be losing the use of me Mum’s car. Needless to say organization and planning have not been our strong suits so far. It turns out it's easy to let time slip by hanging out by the pool and doing some cooking (poof, there goes the day).
We did get to say goodbye to my family and have a nice meal with them, as well as a fun dinner out with Jodie & Mike. Then spent another great few nights at our favorite London Bed and Breakfast, Chez Jason and Erin. For our previous stay they spoiled us with great food, 2 puppies and 2 kitties. Hard to beat, but they did it: great food, 4 puppies and 2 kitties.
We then returned to my folks' place to drop off Mum’s car and they kindly dropped us
off at Bill and Sue’s cottage in Kettle Point (near Grand Bend). Great night hanging out with the gang there and a special thanks to Danielle who made drive with her furry co-pilot from Waterloo just to hang for the afternoon.
We even managed to get a bonfire with marshmallows later on in the evening, thanks to generous neighbours who shared their marshmallow supplies. Note: Marshmallows is not code for anything other than marshmallows.
Due to good fortune Son, Kevin and Owie were at a cottage nearby and gave us a ride home to Oakville. Owie was the biggest trooper of all, as I am pretty sure he sacrificed some toys on their trip to leave room for us on the return journey. While Kevin and I were packing the trunk I could actually hear the Tetris music playing.
After a quick stopover in Oakville for one night, we packed up the car again and were off for another 4 day break at a beautiful cottage in Lakefield. We owe thanks for this stay to Kevin’s family.
Had a great time, played games, celebrated Son’s birthday, got in a few good lake swims and had some
fun times at the park. Then it was back Oakville.
Our hosts arranged some car swap-a-roos to drop us off at the airport for our evening flight to London. We made it to the airport 3 hours early and had a nice leisurely dinner. Boarded our plane with great seats (at the back where there are just 2 per row). Then we got a special surprise as a final Ontario farewell, turning on our iPad (which is now our sole computing device) only to see a scrolling bright light. Turning it off and on did not fix the problem, hmmm, a not so great beginning to our overseas journey. Good-bye for now and thanks to all of our Ontario friends and family, stay tuned to hear more regarding our iPad saga...and London too.
