Yesterday went by very fast. I spent the day ironing running errands and generally tidying the house. Steph was at work and got dropped off at the train station straight from working a 12 hour shift. We got the
7.45pm train from Wolverhampton to London Euston. We'd prebooked and managed to get first class tickets for only about £10 extra. We definitely spent the next two hours getting our money's worth! We managed to have seats right opposite a guy who was Irish. I don't know if he'd been on the Guinness or not but he spent most of his time on the train singing out loud and cursing at his laptop because the wifi didn't seem to be working. He got off at Coventry so at least we did have some peace and quiet for the rest of the journey. Once we hit Euston we expertly navigated the tube like pros to Victoria station where we got the gatwick express to the airport and then a shuttle bus from the airport to the hotel. Everything went smoothly and if the rest of the travelling goes as smooth we'll be very happy!
When at the travelodge we checked in and
found our room on the top floor. After a good nights sleep we woke up nice and fresh, checked out and got the shuttle bus back to the north terminal. The bus journey was interesting and we got split up whilst I 'babysat' my case at the front. I can't work out whether the buses are just designed wrong for luggage or the people on them can't put their cases in the racks properly. Cases were blocking the aisle when there was room in the racks. The racks had tape across to stop luggage falling out which was great apart from the fact you can barely put it in in the first place!
Anyway got to the terminal ok, checked in and straight through security. Neither of us got searched or our hand luggage so from hotel to departure lounge was less than an hour. We spent some time wandering through the shops and both bought an obligatory pair of sunglasses as seems to be the norm whenever I fly abroad! We got to the gate, there was a slight delay and we ended up taking off an hour late. I'm sat on the plane
now writing this up with about three hours to go until we land. We thought we didn't get any free drinks or food on the plane as we are flying with westjet but turns out we got free soft drinks and some snacks. The boots meal deal we purchased at the airport also fed us well. At this moment we are undergoing some turbulence and seatbelt signs are on. It's not too bad just a bit jumpy and the pilot has announced that its expected for half an hour longer before what should be smooth flying into Vancouver. There's no TVs on the seat backs so no nice map showing where we are at this time. Westjet have a connect app that you download on your tablet or phone before flying then you connect to their own onboard wifi to access the movies and TV programmes. It's quite good I've just watched Oceans 13 and The Martian on it.
I guess we are over Northern Canada somewhere, about an hour ago Steph could see floating ice on the sea below us and managed to get a photo on her phone. I haven't got a clue
what time it is in Canadian time just that its
8.55pm London time. I think Vancouver is 8 hours behind but I guess we'll find out when we land. I'm feeling a little tired but have managed to have about an hours sleep but I think I might try and get a bit more before we land, as we've got to pick up the rental car and drive about 40mins north to the first hotel at Horseshoe Bay, hopefully the traffic will be kind to us ?
