Well, I made it in to Vancouver's main street bus terminal at around 5:00 yesterday morning. I didnt manage to get any sleep on the bus and yesterday was go, go, go all day long. I had a few hours to kill before the Indian Consulate opened up so I decided to get a coffe and head down to Canada place and watch the sunrise. What I actually found myself doing was watching the sea planes take off and land.
The last few months prior to this trip I havent been going out much or spending much money. What I have been doing a lot of though is playing Flight Simulator X. Learning to fly (virtually) and navigate using proper procedures. The planes I have spent the most time in are de Havilland Twin Otters, and Beavers, and the port of Vancouver is one of the places I spend most of my time in the game. A year ago I probably would have gotten bored after watching a few planes take off and land; however, yesterday I spent roughly two hours watching those pilots and those planes. Man are they talented, and graceful.
Shortly after I made it to
the embassy, got my visa application going, and then hopped on the train out to Coquitlam to my cousin Rob's place where I will be staying. There was a lot of walking involved and I was expecting the backpack that I bought for this trip to be a bit uncomfortable until I have had a chance to put it through its paces. It was surprisingly comfortable though, and its nowhere near broken in yet. I am glad I spent the extra money and got something decent.
I made it out to coquitlam, quickly got showered and cleaned up, and then got in touch with Carie and Chad. Friends I havent seen in a long, long time who are living down here in Vancouver. It turns out that they have plans to travel in India at the same time as me so we made plans to meet for dinner and talk about our pending adventures. Once plans were set, I realized that it had been about 36 hours since I had slept, so feeling pretty out of it I managed to grab a quick nap on the couch. I woke up when Rob made it home from work and we
ended up having a good visit together. We used to be roomates a few years back and its been quite a while since I have seen him so it was really good to get caught up. He made me feel right at home here, and even offered to pick me up downtown when I was done visiting with Carie and Chad. Nice! I left the house I left the house and headed back into Vancouver to meet Carie.
Well, after a really good visit and a tasty dinner it sounds like Carie, Chad and myself have some rough plans to meet up together in Goa. It seems that we are both planning to be there at roughly the same time. Pretty bizarre coincidince when you stop to think about it. The night was moving on, and I was exhausted so I gave Rob a call and he said he would be along shortly to pick me up. I had no idea what was in store for me. Take a look at the pictures! Yes, its a real Ferrari. They made less than 1500 of them so collectors plates are available for it even though its less than 25 years
old. My god, what a ride home. Its just a beautiful, beautiful car, and Rob is quite capable of driving it the way it was meant to be driven. Without question it was the fastest I have ever gotten into Coquitlam from downtown Vancouver. The thing sounds just like a formula car once its wound up and the engine is just inches behind your head. It was loud, and fast, and the most fun I have ever had on a public road. It was a great way to end my first day of this trip.
Today I didnt do very much. Spent most of the day exploring and walking around downtown. I managed to pick up my signed visa without a problem and get all my last vaccine shots so all the loose ends are tied up and I am all set to leave now. I can spend the next few days just chilling out without worrying about getting things done.
I better get going here, this is getting long and I need to get cleaned up. Rob's girlfriend managed to score free tickets to the ZZ-Top concert so we are heading downtown to check out the beards
tonight!
