Highlights of our 8 Weeks in Canada and Alaska – 13 August to 7 September 2016

As with every time we travel I try to wrap up our experiences and activities after we visit another stunning country. However, there is always a risk of understating what we have seen or done. The following is an attempt to do so, with contributions from Tom & Sheryl, my incredible traveling partners. We have thoroughly enjoyed our 8 weeks and I have thoroughly enjoyed travelling with them both. I hope they have tolerated my over-enthusiastic planning and “I have an idea’’ statement they heard frequently lol!! Here goes the list

· Beautiful, flower-covered Victoria and the Fairmont Hotel on Vancouver Island

· Mountains and glaciers along the Inside Passage

· Not being cold on the cruise ship o Alaska

· Denali National Park in Alaska including seeing the bears

· Klondike Rail journey, Alaska

· Seeing Annie and Steve Grant in Vancouver, my work-mate Annie whom I hadn’t seen since 1987 in Darwin

· Chihuly Glass Gallery in Seattle

· Niagara Falls, including the tower view and the fireworks sky show

· The little town of Niagara-on-the-Lake

· Wandering around Quebec City, particularly the old town

· Light show on Ottawa Parliament House

· Peggy’s Cove and eating a lobster roll

· Climbing up Grouse Mountain in Vancouver

· Eating the Lobster Supper at New Glasgow, Prince Edward Island

· Changing of the guards at Ottawa as well as visiting the Governor’s Rideau Hall

· Eating a Sweet Jesus ice cream and 2nd to that many ice creams from Cows

· Grand Falls Edmonston, Les Jardins de la Republiqe gardens with many figures made of plants

· St Andrews, New Brunswick Garden with all the statues and special hardscape

· Many Lighthouses

· Hopewell Flowerpot rocks and St Martins Sea Caves near St Johns in New Brunswick.

· Anne of Green Gables house in central Prince Edward Island and the musical concert in Charlottetown

· Irish band at the Red Shoe Pub at Mabou on Nova Scotia’s west coast

· Toes in the Atlantic Ocean

· Driving across the longest bridge in the world over ice-covered water – Confederation Bridge near Quebec City

· Tidal bore tides at Maitland, Nova Scotia and St Johns, New Brunswick

· Lunenburg town with all the coloured houses and different doors on southern coast of Nova Scotia

· Learning about the Maritimes history particularly on PEI and Nova Scotia

What an incredible list …. but I hope the list doesn’t take away all the other things we saw and did and the people we met chatting about travel etc.

I hope you have enjoyed my stories and photos and if you haven’t been to Canada, you may now see it would be worth visiting. Thank you for taking the time to read my blog.

And again thank you to Tom & Sheryl. Love you both xxxx

NB: I have also included in this blog photos of several sites we visited in Vancouver on the way to the airport.
