6 great minds working as 1
Jesse's uncle, cousins and me planning on how to put out the peir Another month has passed, so I should have another months worth of adventures to fill you in on. Its been a fairly busy month for me. I’ve had a bit of weekend work which is good for the bank balance, but not so good for getting up to interesting stuff. But the weather has been excellent and I’m making the most of it.
I may as well tell you about our new pet Chip. Chip is our pet squirrel that lives in the tree next to our house. He lived under our footpath over winter; and we leave out peanuts and sunflower seeds for him on occasion. He gets a bit rowdy outside our window when I’m sleeping in on the weekends, but no pets perfect. (Mum when you read this blog out to my cat at home leave this section out. I don’t want her getting jealous)
Summer has also bought on my latest fitness regime. I’ve joined the gym and have got myself a personal trainer. I’ve been going for about a month now, and feel its paying off. I will be selling tickets to ‘the gun show’ in no time. I also got on a mountain
Putting in the peir
One piece in, a lot more to go bike the other week. It’s a bit different to riding in Taupo as Edmonton is dead flat, but I’ve found a few hills and dirt tracks to keep it exciting.
So I may as well take this back to where my last blog left off. Jesse’s family has a cabin near a lake about 45 minutes out of town, so we have been out there twice now. Last time we went out for the day Sunday and her cousins and uncle were putting in the pier. Water isn’t my best friend, but I still helped out and am looking forward to some fun in the boat at the next long weekend.
The day before id worked the Saturday in scorching heat. Into the 30’s. But my work happens to be next to the local go cart / motorcycle racing track. So all day I could hear bikes roaring around this track. I thought I was far enough away for it not to bother me, but that sound travels. So I snuck over at lunch, had a bit of a peek. Found a guy who has a bike like mine back home and had a good talk. But I
Sitting by the lake
Me and Jesse sitting by the lake at her family cabin. didn’t offer to buy his bike off him. That’s not to say I haven’t tried to get a couple of bikes since. But our dining room isn’t big enough to store a bike. (for those who don’t know, my last bike was in the dining room for about 5 months)
The next Friday night I got invited down to a pub that id never been to before. It was down town, but away from all the normal pubs. This was my first taste of ‘Illegal bicycle courier street racing’. Every year people converge on this pub which is on the corner of an intersection on a fairly quiet street. How it works is, 3 blocks back 2 courier cyclists line up at an intersection on a red light. Then all the lights for the 3 blocks go green at the same time and they are off racing, first rider across the line wins. One of the girls Jesse works with is in to cycling so knew when it was happening. Things were going well until one guy who wasn’t even racing ran a red light on his push bike, and decided to take on a car. Still he bounced
Cooking Hot Dogs
The lazy mans way to cook hotdogs pretty well, and was ok after. But that put a halt on proceedings, as the title does say this is illegal street racing.
Also that weekend I caught up with another kiwi guy Pete. I met Pete at the rugby last September, and its through Pete that I met Jesse (there’s a picture of him dressed like a transvestite in of my previous blogs). So we went down to the pub had a good talk, was funny hearing a kiwi accent again, but he told me about this club in Edmonton for New Zealanders and Australian’s called the down under club. Not to be confused by the local gay sauna of the same name. So I took Jesse down to yet another pub for the clubs monthly meeting. We met Pete there but were a bit disappointed with the turnout. Me and Pete mate up half the numbers, bring the total of kiwis and Aussies to 4. But the club has about 30-40 members so hopefully the turnout will be bigger in the next few months.
Hmm it appears the last three stories have involved me being at the pub. A pure coincidence I’m sure.
And that
Could this be my new bike?
Sitting on a police bike at the Telus world of science. about brings me up to date. Jesse and I have got a holiday planned in late July. We are going to the moto gp bike racing in California then spending a few days in San Francisco, before going to her friends wedding in British Colombia. So I’m looking forward to that. Hope everything is going well for everyone back home. And ill write more in another month or so.
