Although many people quickly understand the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as Dubai and nothing more (while there are a few who perhaps even know of Abu Dhabi as well), there is in fact much more to see and enjoy in the country. Being from Colorado myself and having developed an appreciation for the outdoors, the UAE provides many opportunities besides shopping! For people who would like to enjoy the outdoors life of this area, I strongly suggest you pick up a 4-wheel drive vehicle, and an outdoor travel book. Once you have these and some safety provisions, you are ready to do some true exploration.

One aspect that I have really come to value in the area is the open land and places to go to. So long as you can keep general track of where you are going, you can have a great time away from the metropolis.

As for this trip, I went with a few friends to the famous Hatta pools. Out in the middle of the desert, these pools exist that can provide a nice afternoon of getting away from the hustle and bustle. Considering how busy and crazy the city can be, taking time

off to be away from cars honking and people in a hurry is a very pleasant experience. Some areas of the pools were quite deep, and if a person is willing to risk it, provides some chances for cliff jumping. I was happy enough just lounging in the pool and eating some food.

Beyond that, there isn't too much to add to this entry. I was in a beautiful place away from the city, with great friends and some delicious food. For anyone who lives or plans on traveling to the UAE, this is a simple reminder that much more exist then just the city.

Nathan D. Bryant
Hello and welcome. My name is Nathan Bryant and I was born and raised in Denver Colorado, USA. While Denver is perhaps one of the most beautiful places in the world, it's hard to be certain unless you see everything else. Thus, the quest begins to find a place on this planet in which its beauty has no comparison. To fund this quest, which has started back in August of 2007, I will highlight as an international teacher of history, political science, geography and philosophy. This job will not only put me overseas and pay me a salary, but also give me around 3 months off a year to travel. ... full info

While it may be hard to imagine, a relaxing day in the water is right behind me.

Here is where the water has done its job. The large river rocks embedded show this has been a major river from time to time.
