Spa Day!
pre-pedicure Thursday afternoon, I flew into Dubai for the first time in three months. Man, I miss this city! Even the traffic made me feel happy.
Today, Jamie and I went for a full spa day and it was FANTASTIC. Jamie had booked the day before at the only place available, so we were not quite sure what to expect. As soon as we walked into the Dubai Marine Beach Resort, we gave each other a high five because we knew it was going to be a
great day.
Our day started with an hour long massage. I've probably only had about 5 massages in my life; including today, the best one i ever had was at this massage school in Ojai and I'm still looking for a similar experience, but it was not today. The woman today was this tiny little Thai lady who took full advantage of the oversized massage table to really get into my shoulder muscles! There were times where I was about to cry or beg for mercy or anything to get her to stop, but I bit my tongue and in the end, it was worth it. Apparently, Jamie's twisted her into a pretzel
but she loved it.
After our massages, we were sent to relax by the beach or pools. We opted for the beach and found two loungers for us to relax in until lunch. The water was beautiful and blue with huge waves - we wished we'd brought the boogie boards! It was a pretty hot day but it was windy so you didn't notice it too much. Unfortunately for me, that means that my upper thighs and bootie got a bit red!
Lunch was at this nice little restaurant; our package included a "light lunch" which meant salad bar, soup bar, and dessert bar. I took about three different salad options and a tiny square of cheesecake. Yummy!
Next up was our pedicure, which we were able to have side by side. It was good to catch up with Jamie and chat about the last three months, since much had happened. I am actually happy with my feet and my pedicure was easy, painless and quick - now I have pretty pink toenails for the summer.
Finally, I got to get my first facial. Honestly, I was not overly impressed. And I really didn't even like
Island bar
I didn't drink anything but water when they covered my eyes and made me breathe in this super heated/humid air - I felt a little claustrophobic which has never happened to me before. But my skin feels fantastic and I managed to sneak in a little nap.
After our spa day, we spent another hour lounging near the beach, where I'm sure I got even more red. Then we met Addi for dinner at a Mexican restaurant nearby. It was ok - I miss real mexican food! (Or - California type mexican food). And to end our day, we went to the premiere movie theater at Dubai Marina Mall for Fast and Furious. Seriously, what a dreadful movie, but I guess it was entertaining. Just so much of it defies any semblance of belief...
Tomorrow, I'm doing my usual - visit the Mall of the Emirates to do some shopping and take care of some errands. I lost 11 pounds while I was on that island, so I'm rewarding myself with new clothes. I feel fantastic and the spa day made me feel even better - it was much needed for both of us!
Now I'm home and updating my blog with something
other than work for the first time in months. So, here are a few pictures of the spa area. In a few days, I will be in Turkey and some even better pictures and blogging will be coming your way!
