Hard Rock Cafe
Gangnam Style - the new craze As usual, Thursday at work ended on a hectic note. An early morning meeting and a report due and thrown together up until the last possible minute. I made it to the airport with very little traffic, and once again took the daily United flight to Dubai. We were delayed and sat on the taxiway for almost an hour, meaning I watched almost all of Pirates of the Carribbean on the "short" flight. I finally decided to get my egate - of course, there were no lines at customs but I made myself go through with it. Egate means that when I fly through Dubai, I can access a shorter customs process with an access card and my thumbpring. Woohoo! No more lines!
Friday, I slept in a bit then went to the Mall of the Emirates where I got some supplies, transferred some money, paid my phone bill and watched a movie in the VIP theater - The Life of Pi (cute movie but I wasn't blown away and the ending confused me). I came home and relaxed the rest of the day.
That evening I went to bed around 1am. At 4am I was awakened by my
Gangnam Style
They were into it doorbell ringing constantly. With the recent fire at that tower in my neighborhood, I freaked out a bit. I opened my door to see a security guard there, who simply said "Noise complaint" I didn't know if he was accusing me or asking me. He repeated it twice before I realized he was accusing me - I told him I'd been asleep for a few hours. My new neighbor poked his head out and said he could hear music through the wall and I assured him it was not me. Apparently it was a party upstairs.
Saturday, I headed to Festival City to meet my coworkers and their families for lunch at the Hard Rock Cafe. It was good to catch up. Afterwards, I went to the Dubai Mall for some shopping and a movie (and I got the skirt from Marks and Spencer's that I wanted!). I saw The Impossible, which I really liked but AGAIN people here do not understand the concept of being quiet in a movie. It is extremely rude and annoying and I'm probably going to have to ask for money back at some point. This was an intense movie, and you had people
talking and laughing and talking on their phones. WTF?
When I got home, I had a box of chocolates waiting for me at my door with a note from my neighbor apologizing for waking me up. I went over to thank him and he answered the door without his shirt. I think he was American, maybe Canadian, but I can't really remember his face - his chest was pretty nice though. 😉
Sunday was back to work at the office, followed by our team dinner with my soccer girls at a Japanese restaurant in the Emirates Towers. Fancy fancy! The girls ended the night with karaoke. The only other big group there were some American Navy people - I didn't mingle because i have horrible experiences with navy guys and I just won't go there!
Monday, was our last day of work as we were given tuesday off. Our HR lady went over with me the move to Qatar which will probably be made official in the end of January. Then she invited me to have lunch with her family on Christmas Day before going to the airport. Why not? I was just going to go to
My Xmas Package
From mi familia - pretzels, baking supplies, movies... awesome! the mall and watch a movie again, but I guess this will be better. 😊
This evening I met with Melvin and his wife and mom at a Korean BBQ place that I'd wanted to try. Yum!
Then I get home, and i was looking forward to video chatting with my family all day long... and I got to talk to my parents, sisters and their husbands, niece and nephews and a few of my favorite cousins Awesome christmas!
Merry Christmas everyone!
