After almost three straight weeks of working in Qatar, long days of course, I decided to spend a weekend at my beautiful apartment in Dubai. Not to mention I had lots of errands to run.
The week was full of lots of work on two major projects. Wednesday, my coworker came to visit for a different project and to help out on one of mine. That evening, he, Indiana and Tony and I went back to this arabic restaurant in the middle of town where we had more appetizers and shisha. Definitely a good atmosphere- I like that instead of the bar scene, you see lots of people smoking shisha and drinking coffee.
I got back at about 4am on Friday morning in Dubai, taking the Ladies taxi home. Seriously - what a difference!!! You don't have to make small talk with creepy guys and the woman was a good, safe driver! I slept in my own bed, after throwing in some laundry, and woke around 9:30. I wanted to sleep longer, but I really needed to go to the mall to take care of some bills, so I threw on some clothes and caught a cab. I paid
my cable, got a new phone card, transferred money to the US and inquired about sending my parents a package (EXPENSIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!). I decided that was a nice full day, so I bought a movie ticket for Flight (very good by the way, even though I'm not a Denzel fan), got a burger and shake from Shake Shack, and finished up my christmas shopping. By then it was time to return home and take a nap. I tried, and then Melvin called me and asked if i wanted to join them for desert night dune bashing! That was the main reason I'd initially come that weekend, but I was told there was no more seats. I literally had less than 10 minutes to take a shower and get ready, but I did - I took a freezing shower, washed my hair and combed it out and threw some clothes on before running downstairs to meet my ride.
I am so glad I did! We had so much fun driving around in the jeeps; I was riding in the jeep named "KickAss" with Hicham. Hearing that engine rev is amazing. We found a nice spot to bbq (girls got the wood)
and smoked shisha, before laying down and looking at the stars. We saw lots of shooting stars and we were in the main flight path, so lots of planes as well. Beautiful evening. Melvin popped his tire off the rim on the way back, but it was bound to happen to somebody.
I was pretty much worthless on Saturday, sleeping in and doing some work on the computer. I finally dragged myself to the mall that evening for dinner and to send my package to the US. I was so frustrated because half the things I bought, I was not allowed to send: gold, spices and dates. Really? Oh well. It was expensive, but at least my christmas shopping is mostly complete!
I then took myself to see Skyfall, which I actually enjoyed. Then I crashed that evening before leaving in the morning to catch my flight to doha. More on Qatar in the next blog...
