Leaving IstanbulLeaving IstanbulLeaving Istanbul

Leaving Istanbul crossing Bospherus (day 11)
After a first class breakfast in the hotel we set off eastwards into Turkey. Gail’s excellent navigation took us across the Bosphorous Suspension bridge (see photo) where we had stunning views, despite the rain. We found at the toll the other side of the bridge that they didn’t accept money, only special motorway toll cards.

We bought one for the three cars only to find that it would only allow one car through a toll point! So with shuffling about we eventually managed to get through - as indeed we did at the next toll before the card ran out of credit and we could revert to good old cash again. East of Istanbul it is very industrial and it took some time to clear the built up areas.

The road wound upwards and after some 100 miles or so we branched northwards through beautiful rolling countryside towards Karbuch, which is a rather unpleasantly industrial town (but had a good supermarket!). Just the far side was our objective, Safronbolu, acclaimed to be one of THE beautiful Turkish villages (see photo). We decided to explore it tomorrow as it was by now 4.30 pm and we needed a campsite.

Heading for camp 6 Turkey - rain again but last for some time

We motored on for a few miles and eventually found a lovely spot in a harvested cornfield where we were totally remote and we had an excellent night - apart from the drumming we could hear from Karbuch. (261 miles today - 2370 from home).
