"Hello everyone.....there's less than 3 weeks to go before the 6 day punishing race in the Sahara desert. Thank you to everyone who has supported me so far. The training and preparations have been a challenge. I'm sorting out my meager food rations (2,500 calories a day) plus survival kit. It all needs a lot of attention to detail......it will result in a 7-8 kg rucksack! Some weight to run with!
Some interesting facts about the Marathon Des Sables:
Around 1000 participants race through some of the most vicious and very hot terrain on earth.
Temperatures of over 50 degrees celsius
6 days covering 150+ miles (250km) in 6 stages
Participants are self sufficient throughout (except for water/salt and medical care)
The organisers provide:
120,000 litres of water, support staff, 4 camels, 1 incinerator lorry to burn waste, medical team, 6.5 km of Elastoplast, 6,000 painkillers and a lot more.
ECG FUN AND FROLICS.....
Providing a medical report/certificate and ECG within a month of the race is mandatory. I had to revisit my doctor because of my abnormal results (a little panicked!).... I have a very low pulse and a condition called "Athlete's Heart". He was happy signing it off given my training and fitness. I can now race!
Donations..... Thank you to colleagues, friends and family for sponsoring me. I really appreciate it. Your donations will make a real difference.
To others....Please donate even a small amount to Lifestart Foundation in Vietnam. Thank you
I look forward to updating you all after the race ( with an ice cold drink in my hand! )
You can message me DURING THE RACE! (please use my race number 595 and name JAMES EVERSON-CRANE) simply go to the Marathon Des Sables website www.marathondessables.com between 6-11th April 2014"
A huge thank you to James from everyone at Lifestart Foundation for this truly amazing effort
Making the most of a proper meal!
Food in the desert will be 2,500 calories a day to show his support for our work with disadvantaged people in Vietnam.
We wish him a safe marathon and look forward to his update at the conclusion.
For those of you who are a little techno challenged like myself, if you click on any of the words in blue it will automatically link you to the webpage we are talking about. Don't forget to have a look at our website and find out how you can also support us from anywhere in the world (without having to run a marathon!).

Great photo! And good luck to James!
In Chinese, they say "Jia You!" = add some oil (gas)! Keep the sand out of your shoes! I'll be following the race every night. Good luck!
