At the trail and the fort. Friday 4 August 2023, day 18 of Pembrokeshire Coastal Path walk from Fishguard to Newport Beach Wales.
Alltrails app. 4 hours 55 minutes walking.
9.69 miles. 1263 elevation gain.
Garmin forerunner 25. 4 hours 58 minutes walking. 9.52 miles. 1213 feet elevation gain
To avoid 2.5 miles from our BNB to the trail start at Fishguard Fort, Tony our taxi driver volunteered to take us. This was not scheduled and he said it would be gratis. We were grateful. The days and distances are beginning to tell on us. A day off tomorrow with be a nice rest.
We are across the beach from Goodwich. The Ferry Dock is in Goodwich but called Fishguard Ferry Dock. Toni thought this should be rectified.
I tried to get some photos of the feel of walking along the cliff edges with just 3 feet to the left and a long fall to the sea.
So of course from the start we go down then we climbed from the beach to the cliff. The fort is most noted for the attempted 1797 invasion of the French. The Welsh Fired blanks resulting in the landing occurring elsewhere along the shore.

A shadow means a Sunny day at this path post Two days later the invading French surrendered at Goodwich. This was the last invasion of the British Isle's.
As you will note on our track we skipped the 475 foot climb from pwllgwaelod beach to Cwm yr Eglwys and around this peninsula. The Sailors Inn had nice picnic table for a sandwich break. So, we took the wheelchair accessible path with the acorn trail marker across this cutoff.
Still we had a lot of beach to high cliff climbs. Today. Jo believes more than 10.
Arrived at Golden Lion just about 3 pm and we were glad to have our rooms ready.
Chuck treated us all to a great dinner at the Golden Lion restaurant.
