We drove from Balerno to Crieff for Lori's 10 km race.

All ready to go!
It's not raining! Gorgeous morning and a good day for a running race! Drove to Crieff for Lori's 10km race and the kids' 1mile race. Weather was so nice we all ran in shorts and t-shirts! There were over 300 runners and about 40 kids racing too! Lori took off first for what was predicted to be a "mud fest" by the race organizers. Well, it most certainly did not disappoint if you were looking for mud! After a short start on a road, the next 5.5km were hilly trails, most of which were muddy and parts of which were like slogging through a pig pen! Mud up past the shoes! Her fear was a muddy messy wipeout which she managed to avoid.....whew! In spite of conditions, she had a great time and was very pleased with her race. Instead of the usual water station every few kms, this race had something else....no not haggis, no not Irn Bru, yes, it was pipers!!!! Every few kms, there would be a piper, out there in the middle of the woods, piping away! What a way to race! There were 6 pipers in all and they really made the race a memorable experience. Also,

This was the starting line piper. He piped us off! That's most definitely a first!
in the race kit was a great mug to keep as a race memento. The kids also had a blast in their race and both got medals and finished very well!

After some food and a major hose down at the rugby clubhouse, we headed off to Linlithgow Palace. Yes that is where we went yesterday. But in the better weather, the jousting show would be back on and the kids really wanted to see it. We changed our original plans and headed to Linlithgow. Our timing was perfect as they were only able to put on one jousting show today (they would normally do one each hour all afternoon but due to the rain yesterday, they would only put on one show as just one show would make a mess of the grass with the horses running on it). The only show started 5 minutes after we arrived! It was a great show and worth coming back for.

Then we came home and turned right around to go for dinner at our home swap family's friends house. They are also exchangers and so we had a lovely dinner and visit with them and just now got home. What a full day!

Apparently I was pretty clean compared to the guy who came in first! He was muddy up to his neck.
