Ok. I'm sorry that I havn't written since I got back from Rome, but honestly, other than Canada Day, I really havnt been doing anything interesting other than wandering around the city looking at the shops and hanging out with Jackie, Brad and friends at night. I figured that you could all do without a daily account of the 18 different kilt shops that i visited each day with corresponding pictures that one could honestly not tell apart. Anyway, the last couple of days were actually spent doing things that are relatively interesting and are complete with equally interesting pictures. but first, i will talk about Canada Day, which was awesome. I was a little mad that I didnt get to watch the yearly fireworks show at home, but then i heard taht they really werent that good this year, so that made me feel better. For Canada Day, a group of the students here at the University that Jackie and Brad are friends with decided to hold an even called "Beer Olympics". the concept of the event is basically this: teams of two buy packs of 24 beers, which they need to split in half and drink within the
span of 2-4 hours while they participate in numerous sporting events. each team gets a certain amount of points for each game they win (games included Bocce ball, badminton - you had to hit the birdie while holding a beer in your hand, golf, and football - american) also, a number of points were awarded to the team that finished their 24 beers first (440 ml cans). anyway, the fun part about it is that it took place at about 130 in the afternoon, so all of the participants were dead drunk by like 6. good times. Anyway, it went well... Brad teamed up with his friend Dave and they managed to finish their drinks first by a large margin. they came in second for the sporting events though because they decided to not play golf and devote thier time to finishing their booze. a wise and strategic choice. Jackie and I had a couple of drinks on the sidelines as i think 12 beers in a row may have killed me. it was a seriously fun show to watch though. 😊 Anyway, once all of the beer was drunk, it started to pour rain, except no one wanted to
go home so the boys all played an intense drunken game of tackle football... in the rain... it was insane.. then the went slip-n-sliding in the puddles in the grass... then to the pub (where they were actually let in all sopping wet and dirty. it was a good day. a drunken day... as Canada Day should be. 😊
Anyway, so that pretty much put most people out of commision for the next couple of days. like i said, i wandered around some stores and bought some presents and various things for myself incluing some awesometastic Beatles Yellow Submarine shoelaces!
Yesterday though i decided to do something touristy so i went down to the coast to a little town called Portabella and walked in the water down the beach for a while, which was actually really nice. i was impressed by my ability to successfully take the bus from one city to another by myself without getting lost 😊 i have very bad luck on buses.
And then today, we got up and Jackie, Brad and I went to St. Andrews, home of Golf... the golf part wasnt really as exciting for me as it would be for someone else,
but it was cool anyway. we ended up walking around the town looking at the shops and then made our way to the ruins of the castle there. it was really cool. there was this mine that you could walk down which was dug by two armies, one going each way and they met in the middle somewhere and fought... underground... anyway, that was cool. Then we went to the chapel in town with was also pretty ruined but there were lots of really cool, really old graves. we walked up the tower in the center of the graveyard, got a nice panoramic view of St. Andrews and the ocean. after that we went for food, where we met a drunk scotsman who kept telling us that he thinks Canadians are too nice.. but that we should take it as a compliment.... it was interesting.
Tomorrow, i am gonna do a bus tour around the city, so if there is anything touristy that i have missed, i will find it. ill be like a tourist ninja... it will be good. then Jackie and I are going to see Potter, then on Saturday, we get to go see Elton John! yay!
so it should be a good rest of the week.
Anyway, miss everyone tons and i will try to update a bit more often assuming i can get back home from the bus tour.... evil buses.... crossing fingers.
