After the struggle of packing everything, not only for home, but also for a two week European vacation, I was finally ready to head to the hotel. I took a cab to the hotel, and struggled to push my suitcases into the hotel. Since the room wasn’t ready yet, I had them hold my bags for me and I headed to the airport to meet the family. After waiting a bit since their flight was delayed and, as I would later learn, their bags were on the wrong flight, I finally saw them coming out of the baggage claim area. It was so great to see everyone, and we were all ready to head to the hotel. We took a taxi to the hotel and headed up to get situated in our rooms. We then had a lovely dinner with Sabrina at the hotel, and after dinner, I had to say goodbye to her which was another hard departure. After dinner, mom and I headed to George’s Square to check out the Christmas lights and the markets. We enjoyed walking around until it started to rain a bit, and then we decided to head back to the hotel.
The next
morning, we had a lazy start to the day, enjoying breakfast at the hotel. While waiting for the girls to wake up, I showed mom and dad the pictures from the rest of my abroad experiences, and we were all able to relax. When we were finally ready, we headed to lunch at Five Guys, which was a favorite choice for the girls. Unfortunately, on the way out of the Five Guys on the way to the university, Mom got caught on the uneven pavement and sprained her ankle. After stopping in a pub near the incident to ice the affected area, we headed back to the hotel and got her situated with ice and put on a movie for her and the girls. Dad and I then headed to campus to check me out of my flat and hopefully see the university lit up at night. Unfortunately, by the time that we had checked out of the flat, it was quite dark and the lights were not on at the university. So, we really weren’t able to see anything. We headed back to the hotel room and all watched a movie to finish the evening.
The next morning, we decided to take a double decker bus tour of the city since we figured that would be a good way of seeing the city without having to do too much walking. The first part of the tour was great, as we were able to sit on the top in the front half that was covered by a roof. When we arrived at the Riverside museum, we were a bit hungry and wanted to use the restrooms, so we decided to get off. We explored the museum, and had a great lunch in their restaurant which overlooked the river. After waiting a few minutes to get on the bus, we unfortunately had to sit on the lower level since the top was all full except for the back which was wet as it was actively raining. The final half of the tour was not as exciting, because we couldn’t see well out of the lower windows at all. When we hit the university stop, we didn’t want to get off and be stranded for an hour in the rain, so we kept going and couldn’t see anything. About a block later, mom and I climbed up to the top to see a glimpse of the main building as we drove away. We got off at our original stop and headed back to the hotel to pack and get ready for our departure for the next day.
Overall, we didn’t get to as much as we had originally hoped to in Glasgow, but we still had a great time doing the touring that we were able to and spending some time together after me being gone for so long.
