Friday 15 June 2018 - 12 miles (13.41 actual);
Awoke at 7am to ominously dark room - was expecting torrential rain when I opened curtains but no just blackout curtains!
Dark skies but no rain as was forecast!
After a nice continental breakfast & a couple of muffins smuggled out for later, we happily abandoned our monstrous suitcase to the care of Ginger Routes & made our way to official start point of the walk. The first few miles were dry then we had a couple of showers - nothing too heavy, mainly drizzle but enough to keep my hood up to avoid the dreaded hair frizz. Stopped after 7 miles at lovely cafe/restaurant, Beech Tree, for much needed pee & scone! This place must be mobbed in summertime - fantastic place & so accommodating for walkers. Great outdoor section with picnic tables both in the open and under cover. Lovely play area for children with wee pets corner with rabbits, ponies & goats. A real gem - highly recommend.
Arrived in Drymen just before 3, and our acccommodation did not disappoint. Angel Cottage was indeed heavenly. Modern and tastefully decorated. A real bonus was French door leading to own decking area with bistro table & chairs. Too bad rain came on heavily & prevented us using it.
Went to oldest registered pub in Scotland / the Clachan for drinks then lovely meal. Again, highly recommend! Busy place & best to book in advance.
Finished off evening in B & B with a wee vino nightcap whilst Michelle caught up with Love Island - no escape from this even in wilderness lol
All in all a great day one - not the most scenic of routes but no aches & pains. Looking forward to the sights tomorrow ...
