Hi Friends and Family!
After a refreshing sleep in which “The Small Young Gentleman” fell out of bed and I got up at 6 a.m. Again!
We had an early breakfast at 7:30 and booked a taxi for 8:40 as our train was to leave at 9:10. We paid an extravagant 7.00 pounds. Gulp!
I had pre-booked and pre-paid our reserved train seats for the 2.5 hour trip to Aberdeen - ₤10.00 for me and ₤5.00 for “The Small Young Gentleman”. We received free cans of Coca Cola Zero which they were promoting and used the journey to play “Happy Feet” and various other games on my Notebook until the battery ran out and I fell asleep.
Going on holiday is exhausting don't you know!
We arrived slighty before 12:00 and according to the station staff, our B & B on Great Western Road was “not far”. Ha! Ha!! It took us 45 minutes to drag suitcase, backpack, child and teddy who wanted to pick up flowers for our bedside table. Sweet but time-consuming!!
The St. Ola's B & B is a lovely place. One of the best so far. The address is: St. Ola
Guesthouse B & B. 421, Great Western Road, Aberdeen.
The landlady met us with a welcoming smile. We were on the top floor. Double room en-suite and most importantly, WIFI connection. Yeah! At ₤50.00 a night, it was looking good value!
The weather was so fantastic and so hot, we just had to change out of our “travelling clothes” into our “its sunny weather” clothes, have a cup of chocolate / tea, then zoom out!
We walked around the town of Aberdeen and from our B & B its about a 20 minute walk to the High Street. Aberdeen is pretty compact with lots of shops for “high street shopping” but although there were many historical buildings, I didn't find them particularly imposing. Shame!
'Sad to say that I find Aberdeen dare I say, slightly dull and boring!
I was expecting castles and castles and to find myself following my nose to a whiskey distillery!
Don't get me wrong, these things are available and to be had but are far away and out of town and not easy to get to without some form of wheels.
You're quite better off walking around the
town yourself. In fact, we “did” Aberdeen in less than 2 hours!! There really wasn't much to do there.
There was “His Majesty's Theatre” but with productions at 11a.m. And 2 p.m. respectively. There was “The Lemon Tree” art venue but I was reliably informed that it would be too immature for “The Small Young Gentleman”.
In short, there wasn't much to do!!!
I went to the Tourist Information Office and asked for information about day tours apparently, the only companies they could recommend were for ₤40.00 a day. Each.
Yeah, right!!
There were however, places and regions OUTSIDE of Aberdeen where castles, forests, parks and malt whiskey distilleries were to be found. Now we're talking!!!
A quick visit to the information desk at the Bus Station and we knew we were going “away” the following day.
We picked up our dinner and by 7:30, we were back in our B & B. After watching the London soap “Eastenders” and the film “Freaky Friday” coupled with updating my blog and it was soon time for bed.
See you tomorrow!

WiFi?
With Reference to the above blog, Wifi? ha what a laugh, i'm on the 1st floor less than 10metres from the WiFi and no connection, asked the landlord about the WiFi, seemed spaced out and wondering what day it was shurruged his shoulders and said he'd try and fix it, Rooms are kept in excellent order and cleaned daily, well worth staying in, apart from the WiFi situation that needs to be sorted as the sh*t telly is doing my Fecking heed in!!!!! although watching the local talent walk past every morning and night does help take the edge of what seems to be a very boring dull city.......made of concrete
