Colchester is the oldest town in England and dates back to Roman times. We stayed here last year while attending the Olympics and never had the time to explore this historic village. The Royal Brittania is moored in Leith, a suburb of Edinburgh. Since we were staying in Leith we had to check it out.

It was decommissioned in 1997 and is now a museum. It took a staff of over 200 to operate the boat and serve the queen and her quests. The old ship traveled over a million miles, roughly equivalent to the moon and back twice!!

Yes, they took their Rolls Royce with them on the ship.

This also went with them along with 2 Royal barges.

Some of the guests included: Pres. Clinton, Nelson Mandella, Boris Yeltis, and many other dignitaries.

This was the queen's favorite spot on the ship. She stated that this was the only place where she could truly relax. Most of the furnishings were simple and dated back to the '60's.

Hi Pam and Ron,I always enjoy your journeys......but this time it was special for me. My daughter and Grandson live very close to Colchester,in fact I gave a wine seminar there many years ago. Dont forget that the 500 hundreth Anniversary of the Reformation is happening in 2017..maybe you can visit Lutherstadt Wittenberg at that time.....something to look forward to...June
