Hello Friends and Family! Lukey is feeling too sick to write this blog…I passed on my cold to him so I thought I better write this update cause we know how eagerly awaiting our updates you are. It’s my first blog so be gentle…I know I have big shoes to fill!
You would be pleased to know that we have had our “Heathrow Injection” it’s the 5 - 10 kilos any Australian is guaranteed to gain when they arrive in the UK on their working holiday visa! This is a very real and very stressful condition experienced by Australians once in London. “Effects are literally noticed over night and no warning is given. Put simply, it is the injection of fat on arrival at Heathrow airport; however, this fat does not surface until anywhere from one week to one month after arrival. It tends to affect females the worst with an overall expansion of the body while males experience a concentrated expansion in the stomach area, commonly know as a beer belly…(Luke with a beer belly…hehe that’s a funny thought)! There is no doubt that moving half way across the world into another hemisphere is bound to affect you -
Me and Jan
Me and my Aunty and Uncle's friend, Jan. Lovely lady from Tasmania, who's here for a month. the food, water and air are all different. Also you are many miles away from home and a binge on ice cream, chocolate or alcohol to help lift your sprits at times is necessary” (I googled the “Heathrow Injection” to find this description and I can’t believe how accurate it is). I don’t think the 5 minute walk to the station, odd nights of dancing til the early hours and trek around the common are enough to save us so we have joined Virgin gym which costs ₤58 per month so we will start shedding our London fat! It’’s a wicked gym, it has a pool, a spa and 100 classes per week. We are also going to find second hand bikes cause it’s a bit of a walk to the gym and it will be fun to go riding around the suburbs on the weekends…like London yuppies.
We’ve moved into our new place in Wimbledon, it’s a great spot, loads of cool places to eat and quite a few funky bars. Our room is tiny and Luke and I constantly steal each other’s drawers & shelf space as it is very squeezy. As you will see in the
Newlyweds - Karen and Kevin
My cousin Karen, and her lovely lad Kevin. pics our feature wall is the mighty Australian flag which Luke is very proud of. Our flatmates Sascha and Edi are really nice. Edi cooked a beautiful dinner for us last night, she is a great cook!
My work is going great, everyone is really nice, they had a welcome lunch for me today at a gorgeous Italian restaurant all paid for including entrée’s - la dee dah! Luke has just found a role as well, starting Friday which is awesome!
On Sunday we had my cousin Karen and her new husband Kevin’s wedding at York House in Twickenham. It was a huge old house with beautiful gardens surrounding it. My very talented aunty with the help of her friends organised the entire wedding themselves including all of the decorations including the flowers, the girls’ hair and my aunty cooked all of the food herself. She is amazing! It was a beautiful wedding and everything went perfectly. Kevin’s band played at the wedding and everyone was up grooving away.
We have actually both been sick with colds which hasn’t been nice but on a brighter note and in case you think all we do is eat and
Me!
At the wedding... drink ... cause you'd be wrong ... we have just booked a trip to Brighton for this Saturday, it’s a long weekend so we thought we’d make the most of the sunny forecast (it says it will be 19 degrees though sunny intervals…typical London weather. We’re also heading to “Africa Day at Trafalgar Square” on Monday which is basically “full of the colour and excitement of all the different countries of Africa, Londoners can expect to see arts, music, dance and crafts at the Trafalgar Square event as it is filled with stalls and live performances”.
In a nutshell life is good with meeting new friends all the time. We have another bbq that we are invited to on Sunday with some people we met at the wedding and a few other events coming up!
Love to you all and we will speak to you all very soon. Keep sending us comments on the blog, it keeps us entertained. Love Luke and Jen x x

Fabulous!
Jen, that was awesome - well done on covering for the Luke who obviously has a dose of the "man flu!". WE love hearing your news so keep it coming - green with envy here, cause we're not there with you. Great job on the accomm! What's Lukes job? How's is yours going - nice one on the lunch! Sam walked today by himself after a month of flirting with the idea. We are celebrating with a good red! XX
