on the bridge
we took a nice stroll on valentine's day...just the two of us Drove up to Oxford to visit with Mary Sean’s grandmother it was a nice drive not much traffic in the afternoon. We stopped for lunch along the way. The evening was spent talking, reading and watching a bit of British telly.
Saturday, was crisp clear day so the family went on a long walk along the Colleges of Oxford. Sean’s aunt and uncle visited during the morning hours with their dog Tessi who we took on our walk. The trail takes you through botanical gardens with pretty fountains and eventually leads along the canal where we eyed quite a few student rowing teams practicing their sport.
After walking for a couple of hours, Maureen and I head to the shops while Sean and Thomas continue on the path further a field with Tessi. We walk around the centre for a bit before deciding it’s time to grab a seat at the coffee bar. Service is horrible and the coffee bad, Italy baristas make the best coffee hands down. There was a booth in the middle of the walk way where two handlers displaying 'wild' birds; one has an owl and the other has a bird of prey (Sorry not
good with names - if only Mark was with us?). I meant to take photos of the birds but forgot after the horrible service at the café.
Thomas and Sean rang us when they returned to the car so we met up in the centre dipping into shops along the way. Maureen picked up some china. Having a relaxing afternoon, we had a bite to eat at Granny Mary's before meeting up with the Doyles (Sean’s aunt and uncle) at their local pub which is within walking distance!
The pub is small, very English, with its low ceilings and open fire. Uncle Gerard, Aunt Kathleen arrives along with Ross (cousin) and his girlfriend Sam. They said Tessi was very tired from her day out with the Blair’s. The bar was very lively and packed; they were having a karaoke night in the next lounge area which was the main attraction for most. We departed about midnight back to granny Mary’s home, the folks having an early start the next morning.
We planned to visit the historic town of Woodstock because I spotted a 60’s exhibition at the museum, in the local paper, which seemed to be interesting
The Blair family
with Tessi on a lead covering all that is sixties. Unfortunately, the museum was closed and wasn’t due to open until 14 which is the time we were expected back for lunch. So we had a nice wander around. It was freezing cold and very windy. We popped into a tea house for a cup o‘tea, then just before getting to the car we went into the church to take a peak at the architecture and stain glass.
Back at Mary’s we have lunch, pack up the car, and pay a visit to the Doyle family on the way home. They said Tessi may have been upset from being away from the family for so long the previous day because she started whimpering when the left for church that morning. Tessi if you haven’t guessed already is still very much a puppy.
Always a wonderful time at Mary’s place.
