seaford college
that is the lawn up to the girls mansion, in this photo you can see about one tenth of the school. IT IS REALLY BIG. hello! emma & isab here, writing from our couchsurfing hosts awesome apartment in central liverpool. since last writing, we stayed in seaford college for 3 nights before being politely asked to leave...haha we were scaring the little boys on summer school! from there we headed east to bristol, alex tagged along because he just cant bear to be away from us.
we stayed in the bristol backpackers for 2 nights, which was pretty cool, big, friendly, nice kitchen, lots of comfy tv watching space. first night we all collapsed. next day we did a day trip out to bath, we skipped seeing the actual baths but got the gist of the area...very pretty cathedral, lots of stone, had terrible tea in what we were hoping was an authentic traditional tea house (tea bags! sif!), sampled much of the local freebies, alex was desperate to see the fashion museum but we couldnt find it (typical), saw the foyer of the jane austen museum (cheapskates), mostly just wandered around playing spotto with the ceramic pigs which are decorating the streets for some reason. the weather was reasonable and it was a lovely day! (for those playing at home, rozzie is out of
the shower now so she can input too). went back to the hostel for a nap, and then had our first real night out in england. although 'out' might be a slight exaggeration, we spent most of the night in the bar at the hostel, took over the sound system and had a lot of fun dancing around. the manager said we are welcome back any time! had a slow start to sunday....big bfast and watched family guy with some of the other people staying at the hostel. eventually got ourselves out the door and had a nice lunch by the river, dropped alex at the bus stop and then looked around bristol. around 6 we got on a bus headed for cardiff, wales.
in wales we were staying with a couchsurfer named bob. he was very generous in his hospitality, a very knowledgeable man and couchsurfing pro (we were his 93rd guests!). he was also hosting a 19 year old girl from baltimore, on arrival we were taken for a tour of the docklands, despite all of us being fairly exhausted and unsociable, it was a nice introduction to cardiff and the sunset was very pretty. got home
and were treated to a late supper of cheese and bread and grapes (seems to be a theme with couchsurfing so far!). the next day we were given a set of keys (still cant believe how trusting people are!) and a map, we decided to start with cardiff castle and move on to the museum. unfortunately the three of us have an insatiable appetite for window shopping and it took us about 2 hours to get there via a thorough exploration of the city's arcades, delis (jenni i bought welsh cheese! it was great!) and antique stores. the castle was fantastic, straight out of lord of the rings or something. although we suggest to anyone going there that they skip the introductory video (totally weird...like interpretive dance weird...) the entrance fee was well worth it after a guided tour of the AMAZING living quarters and free time (after a little sun-nap on the lawn) to explore the keep. it had a moat and hundreds of winding stone stairs and everything you want in a castle, seriously, fantastic. the weather was spectacular and we spent a long time there (enough to skip the museum!). that night was pretty quiet, apart from
the weekly stressout about where we were going next!
woke up this morning planning to have another look around cardiff (didnt...lazy....) but got on a bus to liverpool around 1. it was a fairly 'buss-y' day (get it....hahahahaha) and 6 hours later we arrived in liverpool. it looks like a great city and we are pretty excited about having an explore tmrw! couchsurfing here as well, with a lecturer/phd student named rob, he made us feel comfortable straight away and tmrw we are even cooking dinner! luxury! staying here two nights and then heading up to carlisle to visit gm and ellen which will be an exciting reunion! in the mean time will just see what we can of liverpool, there is a HUGE cathedral on the corner (as in, the size of the suburb of northcote huge) and hopefully seeing batman 😊 all is very well, thinking of you at home, hope you enjoy the photos. much love, your favourite travelbuggies.
