Home, Sweet Home
I will definitely miss my lovely flat in Pimlico! Blog... Blogger... Blogged! First time blogger feeling a bit daunted, so you'll all have to bear with me :-)
Let's start with the practical bits...
A few facts for the uninitiated:
Last day in my flat: 31st Aug 2008
Last day at work: 2nd Sep 2008
Leaving drinks: 5th Sep 2008
Leaving for Bangkok: 6th Sep 2008
Preparing for a trip like this isn't easy.... Trying to keep all the "to do's" in my head at once, it feels like it's about to explode. Really should make a list that's a little more detailed than "Arrange visas" and "cancel direct debits"... I'm sure I've forgotten so much. Oh well, one thing at a time - like finishing up everything at work, which is what I'm currently supposed to be doing... Much more exciting to think about my trip, though :-D
I'm trying to stay positive and not panic about going away for so long on my own. I'm sure once I'm on the road, I'll meet loads of other nice backpackers, but it's a bit daunting still. My mum came back from her holiday in the States before the weekend, and we've spent a lovely few days
together here in London before she flew back to Denmark this morning. It was very weird saying goodbye, knowing it will probably be the last time I see her in a year or so. It made me think of all the other people I'll be saying goodbye to in the next month or so.
I'll be having leaving drinks on the 5th of September - so put that in your diaries, everyone. But you're leaving the next day, you say? Not to worry, my flight isn't until 10.15pm on Saturday night, so any hangover should be cured by then, I should hope :-)
Venue: The Loop Bar
http://www.theloopbar.co.uk/
Time: 7pm onwards (bar is open till 3, I think)
Free entry until 9.30, happy hour until 8pm
I do hope to have a chance to see you all and say goodbye before I go.
I plan to update this blog during my trip, but don't expect an entry every day... But do sign up if you're interested in hearing about my little adventure :-) And emails from home are more than welcome - travelling alone might be a bit lonely, I guess - so feel
Battersea Powerstation
My favourite London landmark... If only my flat had been angled a few degrees to the south this could've been my view... free to send a little greeting to kristine.henningsen@mac.com. I'll be so happy to hear from you!
Attached are a few pictures of my flat, my area and work... mainly just to remind myself what I'm leaving behind. Comparisons will hopefully be very interesting once I start uploading photos of Thai beaches and Cambodian
Amok (baked fish with coconut and lemongrass in banana leaf, according to the Lonely Planet).
Oh it really is getting quite exciting :-)
And last but not least, a few pics of friends and family - definitely - I don't have nice pictures of all of you to remember you by, so if you're feeling left out, send me a picture and I'll put it in my "scrapbook" :-)
I've tried to create a map of my route - well a wish list in any case. Hopefully it works:
