Hallo!
Quite an adventurous few days I have had. It all begins with my favorite line: Since I had no class on Wednesday.....
So, since I had no class on Wednesday, I thought it would be another perfect day to go check out a museum (I am becoming very academic over here, sans the classroom). Early on during my time here, I received a message from Iris, a woman who I had the pleasure of meeting while working in the New Jersey Governor's Office two summers ago. She had suggested visiting the "The Cabinet War Rooms and Churchill Museum". Being that Political Science is one of my majors, this museum sounded very interesting, and I thought what a better day than my NO SCHOOL day to check it out.
But first....on my way there, being that I was by myself I am sure this will not come as a shock to most of you, I got lost. But, while I was lost (I later found out I went 6 blocks past the turn) I came across Downing Street. 10 Downing Street is like the White
House (except not white, and not in the middle of a big open field)....(oh yea, and not in the United States). Due to security measure, you can only view the street from the one running perpendicular, but I tried my best to get a shot (picture) of Gordon Brown. I wasn't even sure if he was in today, but none-the-less.
Then after asking a guard for directions (more like four), I found my way to the museum. Once inside (and with my student discount to get in) I proceeded to take in all the information and sights that it had to offer. I am not sure if they allowed pictures to be taken....but I did anyway. The museum showed the different living quarters of the generals and staff, the rooms where Churchill planned out his war-time moves, the rooms where the BBC would conduct their reporting and interviewing from, and much much more. GOOD SUGGESTION IRIS! I really enjoyed the museum and did learn quite a bit.
Oh, on another side note, I have officially adopted Everton as my soccer (I mean football) team. Joe selected Liverpool a few weeks ago, and I chose Everton a few weeks
ago (I just forgot to mention it). I chose them because I researched a lot of the teams histories. They are a good time, but not the front-runners by any means. They play in the Barclay's Premier League (the top league, also sponsored by my bank here) and most of all...I liked their uniforms. Well....on Wednesday, Liverpool and Everton faced off in an elimination match during the FA Cup...and much to Joe's dismay...EVERTON WON!!!! It was a cause of celebration (and a drink....of course).
Last night, Syracuse subsidized movie tickets for us for the movie Milk (movies come out much later here in London). Pammy, Deborah and I signed up to go see it. It was a really good movie, very sad, and Sean Penn definitely deserved his nomination. I am not sure if it is still playing in the US, but if it is, go see it.
Last night a few fellow flatmates and guests ended up at our favorite local night place, "The Elgin". (nicely named after the street we live on: Elgin Avenue). They have amazing drinks there! A picture of one is attached. Our favorite day time local place is also located on our
Guard Protecting
I thought he was real street. It is called "Plan 9", but since we are mature 20 year-olds (some 21), we have nicknamed the place "Plan B". Great food!
Welcome to another addition of: Obnoxiously Annoying Person of the Day. This time it is a female employee at Itsu, a Japanese pre-made food lunch place. The food is very good there...but...not this woman. I swear, Londoners do not know how to use credit cards. The woman took my credit card and had to wait a few minutes while she tried to figure out how to process the machine. When it was all said and done...SHE CHARGE ME THE WRONG AMOUNT! Now she did not know how to fix this, so I had to wait while she called her manager over. Poor Tara, Deborah, and Pammy were waiting for me while all of this was happening. After a few more minutes, and attempts, her manager finally figured out how to remedy the situation. It felt like I was there 15 minutes just trying to pay for my food. Congratulations Woman at the Itsu Cash Register on High Holborn, you are officially today's Obnoxiously Annoying Person.
BONUS STORY!: So I was on the tube the
other day with a flatmate who I can't remember (don't tell them, but I can't recall who I was with). I was counting something out to her, and went...1....2.....uh oh. I then realized I was screaming across the tube, while flipping him/her off using the British version of the middle finger. People started to stare and it became awkward. But I love awkward situations, so I was cracking up.
